"Dicte" a Danish TV series on Netflix shows shunning of protagonist by her JW parents in the first few minutes of the opening episode.

It's similar to Wallander if you're into that type of detective series you're sure to find this one interesting.

Netflix description of the series is that:

"A crime reporter starts a new life by returning to her hometown, where she finds herself at odds with the police when she tries to solve their cases."

It opens with a young girl giving birth, her child is taken away, her parents helping to give the baby up.

Ahead to 24 years later a woman gets out of her car and approaches a group of people entering a Kingdom Hall.

She calls them Father and Mother but they say nothing to her. They go into the building and leave her out.

The woman starts beating up the sign that says Jehovas Vidner.

I can find Season 1 with English subtitles, but for Season 2, only Swedish. :(

The original is in Danish, I've only found access to the first season on Netflix streaming, and as you say it's with English subtitles.

Where did you find season 2 of "Dicte"? I'm interested in seeing how the whole JW parents shunning situation is developed throughout the series.

If you use torrents, it's no problem. That is peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing. It's legal in some countries, and in others, not so much (especially the USA). You can find "Dicte" on The Pirate Bay and also KickAss Torrents sites.

We are into season 2 and the JW theme is an integral part of the plot.

A very well written and made series. The Danes love to bash JWs

Okay, I was wrong - no English subs, just Dutch & Swedish, but I'm sure they can be found. I read the premise of the show and it does sound good. Also, recognizing the actress, I'm sure I saw her in a Scandanavian movie a couple of years ago. Well, I'll just see what can be done about those subs. Thanks. :)

I see that the library has one of her books "THree Dog Night", and another "Dead Souls", on order. I shall put them on hold. Thanks! Elsebeth Egholm is the author.

Did the author grow up as a JW and was DF'd then shunned?

How does she write about this?

Or is it well known in the Danish communities that's what JW's do?

Scandivians in general I think are pretty aware of Jws and their practices. It has been exposed in the media many times, including national television.
