  I agree with the others when they say don't even think about broaching the subject with an elder unless you have some idea what you are talking about.

  Oh, and Smart? Take deep breaths in and out. I understand why this knowledge can hit you like a brick and send your emotions all over the place. You are lucky, though. You are young. You have no JW family. You have only been baptised 2 years. You can come out of this relatively unscathed (compared to long-timers and born-ins) and start living the rest of your life.

  One other thing I have also found with JWs and this topic, if they see what you are saying the common response is, so what? "I still believe we are in the last days, look at the wars and sickness and so on. And the preaching work! Who else does the world wide preaching work? JW.ORG, JW.ORG, JW.ORG!!"

  What will the elders come back with if I tell them about this?

  The elders' manual states that the definition of apostasy is something like "stubbornly holding to beliefs contrary to the teaching of the faithful & discreet slave".

  Once the elders figure out that you are not acquiescing to their attempts to "help" you, they will form a committee and probably disfellowship you.

  Do NOT bring up this topic to the elders unless you want to be disfellowshipped.

  SMART they will come back with "the light gets brigher" and they will ask you if you believe this is Jehovah's organization and the governing body are Jehovah's sole channel of communication. Once you answer in the negative to either of these questions the next thing they will say is, we will establish a judicial committee based on charges of apostasy.

  I have found a book which I bought about a year ago. It's called "The Rise And Fall Of Babylon - Gateway Of The Gods". In this history book it states clearly the date of 586 as when Jerusalem was destoryed. From what I understand there is not even a debate about this amoungst historians and scholars. Am I right in thinking that? Does anyone know off hand any credible quote from a professor or someone which I can show to the elders?

  You are exactly right.

  And you will not find and noteworthy article arguing against the 607 date because NO ONE but JWs give it any consideration (and no one is going to write an article to debunk a bullshit idea that is only supported by this small fanatic religion).
