For many of us, the internet is old news. When I first met my husband in 1995, we were using the internet for his job search.A friend racked up $494 in monthly charges out of MY checking account back in the days before AOL was unlimited. (Yes, they paid me back) Strange, but true.
Since that time, I have seen MANY things. But one things stays the same.
Newbies fall for the games played by tro certain posters.
Perhaps they are so new to the internet they don't realize there are those who prefer the anonymity of it to disguise their real intentions.
For instance, suppose someone claimed to need insider information?
What if that one preyed on the raw emotions Cassiline so eloquently reminded us of, and misused those emotions in an attempt to uncover information that was critical to their agenda?
What if someone came to this board and asked you to post rumors about Governing Body members, or corrupt congregations and where they exist?
Will you respond so quickly with outrage at the hurt you've endured at the hands of the kangaroo judicial committee in such and such a congregation?
Or will you wisely wait to determine that person's agenda before responding with information that may well be akin to shooting yourself in the foot?
When answering and responding to posts, my dear friends, don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
