You get disfellowshipped for adultery and fornication, don't you? Shouldn't they have two witnesses for that also? (Sorry, I'm being fecetious!!) Now to be serious........When a child is being molested, raped, fondled by an adult is that adult not fornicating or committing adultery?

don't be- do you recall when babara explained that the wt gets it diection from a very old source of information.
keep in mind that this same source of information tells folks to forgive thier brother up to "77" times.
it does not tell them what type of issues so it is left up to the inteperter to decide what falls under the "77 rule"
while some may not agree with me== the FACT remains that anyone can start a religion and say that even EVEN 17 TIMES OF CHILD MOLESTATION is still well below the 77 rule
it is due to the Bible literaly being an open book for interpetation that has impacted so many folks lives
the way Fred at Greater Mt Baptist interpete something could be the exact opposite of how Leroy at the MT Nebo Salvation church does

On the sin of fornication and/or adultry:
I was told by elders (20 yrs ago) that I only needed one witness against my husband.....and since the witness wasn't a jw - they didn't even want to talk to him (outsider and dirty laundry situation).
I was also told by those elders that sometimes it was enough for the innocent party to stake out the sinners hotel room, apt., etc., and if he/she spent the night with another person (presumably of the opposite sex) - that was enough to establish reasonable grounds.
It wasn't necessary for the sinner to admit that he/she had sex.
At least that's what they told me.....and they never talked to my df'd husband or any of my SEVERAL witnesses against him. Just took my word for it. Of course, the bastard did have one nasty reputation. Bugger ass.

Verrrry in-ter-est-ing comparison Waiting. When I wanted a "scriptural divorce" (Pat gagging using JW vernacular), all I had to do was ask him and that was accepted. Wonder why they don't apply the same "principle" (gagging again) in that situation.

The scriptural mandate was not to bring an accusation against someone with no PROOF. There had to be 2 or 3
Nothing was said you couldn't look into the matter more for PROOF....asking others.
Today,... as francois mentioned, we have different types of PROOF, DNA. hair samples, fingerprints. These serve as binding in a law of court, the same as 2 or 3 witnesses would be in bible times.Would Jesus have demanded if a brother said he didn't do something...that you could't look for PROOF when you strongly suspected him?
With the Borg you are not allowed to look for any PROOF......or else!

What we seem to be dealing with is two problems. The WT society sets itself up above the legal system with a flawed theocratic sence of justice as you have pointed out.Then the local boys fail to separated the WT system of justice from the real Justice System and fail to turn over criminal procecution to the authorities.
Classic case of 'two wrongs making more wrongs right' (WT spiritual wisdom)
DOES ANYONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND THINK THAT WOULD BE A GOOD POLICY??????

yes you are right. once they mess with the evidence, it precludes an honest assessment of the situation. Lady Lee pointed this out in a most eloquent thread.
The whole situation is more than sad. It is tragic.
