Great Moments in the History of the Net

The excellent search engine Google not only indexes a significant part of the www, it also contains a massive archive of Usenet discussions. Some of the old timers here participated on Usenet while the world wide web was just a glimmer in the imagination of Tim Berners-Lee. I actually participated on both sides of the JW/exJW wars from late 92 onwards.

Find links to many "firsts" and the earliest postings on diverse topics like the aforementioned Berners-Lees' annoucement of the WWW, first mention of Microsoft, Madonna, the Berlin Wall coming down, the Chernobyl meltdown, and of course the WTC 9/11 attack, at: http://www.google.com/googlegroups/archive_announce_20.html

Kudos to Google for providing both the treasure chest a usenet archive is, and for digging up these gems.

Ouch, this really took me down memory lane...

This brings up my rabid debates with dubs over the ages: http://groups.google.com/groups?as_ugroup=talk.religion.*&as_uauthors= [email protected]%20&lr=&num=100&as_scoring=d&hl=en

I found one particular debate about child molestation from early 96. JW defenses haven't changed that much:

    Ahh, memories...

(K, you'll have to copy & paste the first url manually)

    Hey Jan,

I just read some of those older threads. Is that Mustard guy YouKnow?

  • JanH

Nah, YK is himself. Mustard guy is a living non-jw troll. He's out to have fun, including posting "so what" to victims on abuse groups. He obviously have lots of fun doing that. Very plonkable.
