    Hi Farkel,

On a recent thread you mentioned that Thomas Jefferson was your hero. I too admire Jefferson.

Would you expound on why Jefferson is your hero?

    Thanks,
    IW

Thanks for posting this, IW. Thomas Jefferson has a quote about why would a god give you the power of reason and then condemn persons for using it?

I'll be looking forward to Farkel's answer.

I read a Reader's Digest article about Jefferson a few years ago, and this always stuck with me.

In 1962, John F Kennedy hosted a dinner at the White House for Nobel Prize winners. He said, "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

    Hi All,

My Grandmother was a decendent of the Jefferson family, one of Thomas' brothers. Her maiden name was Jefferson and there are several Jeffersons in the old family graveyard. They migrated from Charlottesville down through Chatam and Danville Va. To bad I didn't inherit his brain power.

    Greetings,

Thomas Jefferson's concept of government was quite different from that of the Watch Tower. Government, that which ruled least was most effective. Contrast this with the present Watch Tower government that enforces strict control over every facet of JW life.

    Sorry, IW.

I've been buried with work. I will dig out some good links for you. Jefferson is a hero for so many people, that others have wirrten volumes about him. He was a complicated and sometimes contradictory man, but first and foremost he was a Libertarian, and the term didn't even exist back then, if I remember correctly.
