Q Is the organization a direct channel between God and humanity?

A Again, our governing body has never claimed that our organization is inspired or infallible. Instead they, our governing body, study the Bible diligently and through prayer they make a request for his Holy Spirit to direct them and be upon them. And with his help, they come to decisions. So we believe this to be the channel that God is using today. But our governing body has said that it is not inspired or infallible.

Does that mean that the Organisation is not the real channel God is using today but it's really the Holy Spirit???

So that means that other Christians (besides JWs) who've received Holy Spirit are part of the 'Faithful & Discreet Slave' class too????

...which brings to mind something i have often pondered.

in "the new system of things", just how will the 144,000 go about communicating with the 'little people' on earth. will there be some sort of celestial fax machine, or something? or holo-memos with jesus' seal upon them? (i can see it now: "from the desk of jesus"

    Hi AK,

It's all semantics...the Society is good at being able to imply certain things without actually saying them. This gives them an escape hatch when folks call them on something. "1975" is a good example of this. It is true that they never made the statement "Armageddon will definitely come in 1975" - they were much more subtle. But they were still able to make the rank and file believe that it would likely happen within the decade, by linking 6000 yrs of man's existance to the year 1975. This produced the desired result...

In this instance, claiming that God's Holy Spirit directs them as opposed to inspiring them is just merely word play. Ask a typical JW and they will tell you that all the spiritual "food" they receive is ultimately from "Jehovah". Whether it's a result of inspiration or direction is not the real point. The real point is that the GB has the rank and file believing that to reject the Society's direction is the same as rejecting God himself.

No, they weren't subtle about 1975. They said in a 1968 Kingdom Ministry that Armegeddon was just months away.

But at least they say " So we believe this to be the channel that God is using today"

    talk about circular reasoning.

Seeing as how they are beating, raping and murdering one another at a rate probably unprecedented in their 120+ year history that PROVES they gots the 'troof'

    Hey,

Don't forget the May, 1974 KM; "How are you using your life?"

    "

Yes, since the summer of 1973 there have been new peaks in pioneers every month. Now there are 20,394 regular and special pioneers in the United States, an all-time peak. That is 5,190 more than there were in February 1973! A 34-percent increase! Does that not warm our hearts? Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked worlds end.1 John 2:17.

    "

Let's see, June 2002 - May, 1974 = 28 Years, 1 Month that these brothers are still out there in the pioneer service without a roof over their head.. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the SHORT time remaining before this wicked world ends!!!!! I hope their funds aren't running out yet, because that MAY be the 'trigger' for Armageddon <ROFL>

They are such liars. It's not the holy spirit that directs, them. God sends his instructions to them through angels:

    Vindication, vol 3, 1932, p 250:
These angels are invisible to human eyes and are there to carry out the orders of the Lord. No doubt they first hear the instruction which the Lord issues to his remnant and then these invisible messengers pass such instruction on to the remnant.

    Preparation, 1933 p36,37:
Certain duties and kingdom interests have been committed by the Lord to his angels, which include the transmission of information to God's anointed people on the earth for their aid and comfort. Even though we cannot understand how the angels transmit this information, we know that they do it; and the Scriptures and the facts show that it is done.

    Preparation, 1933 p28
This question is propounded for the benefit of those faithful ones of the remnant now on earth, and the angel of the Lord brings to them the needed information in answer to their questions. This is proof that the interpretation of prophecy does not proceed from man, but from the Lord Jesus, the chief one in Jehovahs organization sends the necessary information to his people by and through his holy angels.

And, yes they have claimed to be inspired:

    WT 11/1/31 p327:
The Watchtower is not the instrument of any man or set of any of men, nor is it published according to the whims of men. No man's opinion is expressed in the Watchtower.

    WT 6/15/57 p370:
Jehovah has established a very definite channel of communication through which he deals with his people ... It is vital that we appreciate this fact and respond to the directions of the slave as we would to the voice of God ...

How would some of you respond if a current JW disdains some of your quotes from Watchtower materials dating back to the 30s, 40s, 50s, etc? In other words, some of this material is over 50 years old and supposedly much new "light" has been received since then?

    Just curious ...

Hi Southland, (You're not living down south, are you?)

I have heard that response from someone.

My response back to them is:

If the WTS is the 'truth' and their truth keeps changing from one year to the next,
then how do you know that what you're being taught now as truth won't be changed next year?

: So we believe this to be the channel that God is using today. But our governing body has said that it is not inspired or infallible.

As AlanF has stated, this is a distinction without a difference. The most generous one can be to this idiotic nonsense is to say, "well, God spirit-directs them when he spirit-directs them. Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't."

Even in Dubland, that statement MUST be true. If it weren't true, then God NEVER directs them and they are foolhardy crackpots who don't deserve the right to force their crap on anyone. And if it IS true, then one never knows WHEN they are spirit-directed and when they are not. Even they don't know. That being the case, they are still foolhardy crackpots being directed part-time by a part-time God who don't deserve the right to force their crap on anyone.

In practice, they DEMAND all of the respect of divinely inspired prophets, yet are unwilling to take ANY of the responsibility that comes with being a divinely inspired prophet.

"Spirit-directed" and "divinely inspired" mean the same thing. I dare anyone to show a meaningful difference between the two.

Another thought provoking statement made by the thought provoker himself, Farkel.

Now why couldn't we see this while we were involved in the JW culture?

One question I think keeps many JWs being part of the WTS is:
What if the WTS is right?

By the JW asking him/herself that question, they must ignore what the Bible gives as warnings about following men, false prophets, ect..ect..ect.
