GOOD cult control techniques

I think that the amount of meeting's is def. a good control tool, as there is no time left to THINK, especially if you have children. Sleep depravation, tiredness, are good for making sure that you cannot think clearly.... so you let others think for you!

I associate tiredness, with the schedule that I once had, when I was attempting doing everything that was required.

    Feel much better now!!

    Hey Latte,

I agree 100%! They keep people on a treadmill of activity with no time to think. Isn't it glorious to sleep in on Sunday mornings?

    Philo,

I think that I must be cracking up. I read your post as "Your favourite TV CONTROL technique".

I`ve just spent 10 minutes with the remote zapper pointing it at the telly over my shoulder, between my legs, pressing the buttons with my nose (like when my fingers are sticky) and even into the mirror.

I`d just come to the point where I was thinking "that bloody Ph:lo", and then, Grasshopper, enlightenment!

Least liked WT control are the phrases that bring down one`s spirit. My big beef has always been the WT`s use of the word "undeserved".

Undeserving fallen man, undeserved kindness, undeserved blessings, undeserved support. Do you know that the term "undeserved kindness" is used in the NWT to replace the words "grace from God"?

    GRRRRR!!!

    REPETITION!

How many frickin' times do you go over the same CRAP!!! At meetings, in field service, at book study, at ministry school, at WT study, in personal study, in prayer, public meeting, informal witnessing, street witnessing, family study, on and on and on and on and on and on and ON! The same Shinola! Same crap, different day!

There is nothing like repetition to indelibly burn into your skull the thoughts of the WTS! Even if they change their "understanding" of something, somehow it's still the same, only different. It gets to the point where we repeat sayings and wordspeak of the WTS without consciously thinking about it. Even years after leaving the borg, some of us still use words that were beaten into our heads by the WTS's repetition machine. Years and years of the same wordspeak drilled into our fragile skulls on a daily and sometimes hourly basis! It's a type of programming that overrides rational thought! No wonder it's such a pain in the ass leaving the WTS.

Somehow, I just couldn't put this in a positive light.

I know this is philo's party, but my vote is for TR
repetition is the key to indoctrination.
repetition is the key to indoctrination.
repetition is the key to indoctrination.
repetition is the key to indoctrination.
repetition is the key to indoctrination.

I also think the WT vocabulary is an invaluable tool used to control the masses: faithful and descreet slave, spiritual food at the proper time, new light, worldly system, big flock, little flock, etc.

    Un'flock'ing believable.

I have a a vague feeling you have reminded me of this. That is I once knew it. But I was a rub a dub then, and I think my reaction to learning about it was, a slightly underwhelmed "oh well" sort of shrug. Now, however it makes my flesh crawl. God's grace sounds beautiful by comparison.

You've made a convincing case TR. Like conflicted is, I'm persuaded (so far) that repetition is the most powerful control technique the WT has. But can I cast my vote for you? It's not a very up-building observation that you have made. And I am concerned that weaker 'ones' might be stumbled and become zeros. Couldn't you have just seasoned it with salt, added a scripture, and finished with the earthly hope of paradise? On the other hand, because you couldn't stomach using double-speak, you've probably got a conscience, albeit an apostate one.

He controls the language controls the communication. He who controls communication controls the thinking. Its Orwellian alright, but in a nice way, naturally.

One of the best that I can think of is that "Jehovah will take care of it".

Most people have an innate desire to help in areas where they see a need. This little expression effectively curbs that desire and channels it into the preaching/sales work for the WTBTS.

Don't get involved, don't contribute to charities, don't waste time trying to put a bandaid on the Titanic, don't help downtrodden people/animals/anything because the only true "help" is giving them a magazine (except for animals...they are worthless, they can't read, and they have no money).

It was pure vomitatious parody, old chap. Just put the brain into the old groove, and let the tongue flap (or the fingers tap).
