That is just typical JW thinking I suppose. Sick as it may be. Now for using the word "Slut" shouldn't your mother in law at least be privately reproved??

Erica came across as adorable and brave and I think those who know her personaly see her this way. The WTBTS breeds "pettiness". They make issues of grooming, and other petty matters that combine with lofty Bible principles to form a religion repugnant to any spiritual person anywhere at any time. Love your neighbor, but if your neighbor has a beard, set him aside, Hypocrites. May they stew in their own petty juices. I remember when only a white shirt was acceptable at the Hall if you were a "spiritual" man. So what did that rule do to the congregations "spirituality". It divided people, it fostered a "fleshly" eye and good people were forced to doubt their goodness and worse they had to choose between acceptance or ostracisim. Who did this to the congregations? The double talking WTBTS. "Aim High" they said but don"t forget to be "Small". They need to control the membership by threats and chicanery because true spirituality rejects pettiness and never justifies it as a means to a greater end. Thus their leadership would be rejected if spirituality were allowed to flourish. They have cultivated a dependency among their members and the membership reflects not merely the normal "pettiness " of humans in general but the type of pettiness that is despised because it combines itself with lofty principles. The memberships rumors about Erica ( and I have first hand experience with them) stamp them as mentally diseased, unable to rise to the principles they recommend to others. Those who saw that Dateline show and who accept these rumors are cowards unable to answer the call of an impending personal religious crisis. If the WTBTS were really guided by an Annointed Governing Body it would lay the issue to rest by publishing a warning that such rumors are unfair, unclean and most of all Unchristian. This one act would begin a healing but it also would put the WTBTS on the highseas of uncertainty , a place they catgorically recommend to others , but faithlessly reject for themselves.

    RR,

It's a shame that, without investigating the matter even superficially, some JWs have chosen to further victimize Erica. But when you think about it, that is normal behavior for the average JW.

JWs don't really want to know the truth about *anything*. Regardless of the subject, the standard M.O. is to adopt a viewpoint (without first thoroughly researching it) and then look for "facts" to support it. Facts that tend to call into question the veracity of the already-held viewpoint are discarded, if they are considered at all.

It doesn't matter if we're talking about cross / stake; the flood; ancient Israelite history; or whether an adolescent girl (in this case Erica) was guilty of seducing a grown man--a sickening idea, if you ask me.

Like others who aren't JWs, once the typical JW announces their view on a topic, don't try to confuse them with the facts.

I also heard some active JWs make sad comments regarding Erica. Personally, I thought she looked great and carried herself well. But these negative comments are IMO further evidence of a mindset that allows these crimes and others to be covered over and evidence of a mindset that blames victims for what happens to them.

All I can say is let these sick people talk and ultimately they expose themselves for the insensitive pricks that they are.

Anyone who accuses a four year old of being a slut and causing their own molestation is simply grasping for anything that will allow them to hold onto their beliefs, because those beliefs are being challenged by this event and they have no support structure outside of those beliefs.

I wonder how many JW women who are saying Erica is a slut would react if they were raped, and subsequently called into a JC and asked what they were wearing, how they were acting, etc., and being told that they were responsible for being attacked because they were wearing the "wrong" thing or were "asking for it." Of course, sadly, some of them would probably allow themselves to be buffaloed into believing just that if they were put in the position, so absolute is their trust in the Borg. How sad to give other imperfect people such power over yourself.

And Erica, anyone who says you are a slut can get bent. Ignore their idiocy, please.

There goes the typical jw rumour mill again - it's rediculous. You see this sort of thing in every congregation. It's disgusting.
