jesus, my sister and i couldn't even pronounce our names properly until we started school. i still get in trouble from my mom when i sign something and miss the apostraphe or the TWO capital letters in my first name *grumble*. we just go by nicknames now because it's so much easier to not have to correct how people say our names, spell them, and asking where they 'came from'

whatever you decide for a name, keep it simple. weird is good, but it's got to be simple. kids usually end up using their middle name instead, shortening their given name or have different nicknames etc anyways. personally i like Daxx :)

I'm a product of a bi-racial couple (my dad is black and my mom is white).

I look caucasian but I identify more with my black roots, although I love both of my ethnicities.

My name (first and middle) is Brian Andre.

Other bi-racial (black and white) peoples' names that I know:

    Ronneale (Ronni)

    Derek

    Gary Daniel

    Leslie Mildred

    Stephen Hampton

    Calina Joana

    Gina Marie

I have a distant cousin, whose daughter (white and her husband is white) named their daughters La Tamra, La Tonya, and La Tasha. Now those names sound black. I expected to finally meet her and find a black husband, but no...........just different sounding names. Her Mom told me everyone asks about that.

A sister in our former congregation, had a son, from a marriage to a black man, and his name was Koreem. She meant his name to be Kareem, but didn't know how to spell it, and the father had dumped her before the baby came. She told me she thought he should have a 'black' name. So, I think they are definitely out there. To me 'black sounding names' sound like they made them up. I want to ask some mothers "where did you get that name?"

Some friends of ours in a bi-racial marriage named their sons Chris and Dustin. Pretty common names everywhere in this country.

Just remember the child has to carry that name their entire life.

I met a very pretty girl, the receptionist, at the doctor's office last week. Her name is Sooner. I had to ask where the name came from..................her parents are from Oklahoma. I loved that name. Very different and appropriate for a very pretty young woman.

Just ran into a guy named Steve Slack. The ony think better would have been Jack Slack. A blond kid came into our store named Jim Morrison. I laughed and asked if his father like The Doors. He rolled his eyes and nodded.

A guy in our town is - no joke - named Shithead (first name.) He pronounces it Shi the' ad. How he got it? Two couples made a bet that whoever had their baby first - they got to name the baby come lately. And the late comers were dumb enough to go along with it.

Whatever you decide to name your kid - remember that 20 years down the road, the popular names now might seriously peg them.....ie - the thousands of Tiffany's, Dawn's, Justin's, etc.

Some parents I know actually named their two boys "Treasure" and "Oasis." The boys were in their early 20's when I met them. Incredibly funny guys - going by the nicknames "Tray" and "O" (he could have gone by Sis.). Someone asked the mother, "Were you still drugged when you named your boys?" Her serious response "yes."

Of course, then there was the young local woman who named her baby girl "Filet Mignon". The doctor asked why? "It sure sounds pretty."
