It was about my car getting broken into and losing some car stereo equipment.

    Anyways!

After almost a week of driving with no music, I couldn't take anymore. No OEM system will ever suffice for me, even for listening to AM talk radio. So I didn't bother trying to re-wire the cd player to the speakers still remaining in the car even though they are aftermarket speakers. I just drove without and listened to the police scanner that didn't get stolen. Which can be fun, but I was missing listening to Lex and Terry in the mornings on the way to work. Now that is a problem!

I did consider building a box and putting in a couple of good JBL 6x9's I've got, with an old but decent amplifier I also have. Then this evening I started thinking about it. I finally said "F that and F the thieves!" I deserve better than surrender. And an OEM system or 6x9's to me means surrender.

    So I went shopping.

That Circuit City salesman must love me tonight. I dropped over five hundred bucks for some new gear. The amp is a Bazooka brand, not exactly top-of-the-line but I think it will do just fine and I can always upgrade. The speakers are 12" Infinity subwoofers and the box they go in is way heavy.

I know what you're thinking, that it's just gonna get stolen. Sure it could happen. But not without a lot of work this time, and not without a lot of pain and blood. See, the stuff isn't going in the car immediately. I still have to prepare. Once it does go in, it will be there to stay. Matter of fact, I won't even be able to reach the spare tire which is located under the subwoofer box. The box, subs, and amp will be put in and securely bolted in place. The spaces around the box will be filled with razor wire, which I will be buying tomorrow hopefully.

    That will do for now.

Next step will be to add a metal screen around the box itself, one wired to the car battery in such a way as to deliver a powerful electrical jolt like a stun-gun or taser to anyone who tries to pick it up. I'll just have to do it carefully so the razor wire doesn't come in contact with the electified mesh. Beyond that, I'm considering adding devices that would [explosively] release pepper spray or CS gas when the car is broken into and I really want to find some kind of tracking device I can install in the equipment.

Of course there's always a car alarm. But I want one that will remotely trigger an alarm in my apartment so I can get outside and fire a shot or several at the fleeing suspects.

I'm not exaggerating the prospect of car break-ins here. In Macon, property theft is just outrageous. The cops (while they do try so hard and I respect that) can only do so much and are not that much of a deterrent. The real deterrent is for the bad guys to know that someone will fight back on their level. That level is fighting more dirty than they do. I have no problems with that at all. When that happens they do leave you alone.

Ok, I've ranted long enough. Y'all have a good weekend.

    And lock your cars!

    Mike.

That can't be legal. I'm prettty sure booby trapping your car is frowned upon by the police.

While I certainly sympathize and somewhat agree with your attitude over this, be forewarned that theives have sucessfully sued property owners when breaking and entering to steal their property and they got injured in the process. And no, there is no justice in that, but why make a bad situation worse for yourself?

Personally, I think a stereo with a removable faceplate or some other manner to disable it and make it unusable if stolen, would be a better deterrant. That and good insurance

One drunken nite, we were sitting around talking about how to protect our Harleys from thieves... I was an explosives guy in the army, I said I wanted to put a 1/4 lb of C$ under my seat, wired to a switch, then to the ignition.... switch on, BOOM... switch off, nothing. We thought it was a great idea.

After I sobered up, I realized that I would only hurt myself.... getting on the bike trashed and forgetting the switch.... BOOM.

    I never pursued it.....

How could booby trapping your car be illegal? I would think the laws would protect your right to protect your property..... just like having a pitbull in the front seat. So if the dog bites the thief, can he sue?

I say, do what you need to do to prevent your stuff from getting stolen!

Believe it or not, Tera, theives had sued and collected for injuries sustained while committing a crime. It sounds ridiculous, but it has happened, especially here the good old USofA.

One I remember happened in the early 80s down in Florida, when I moved back there. There was an outdoor concert going on at the local dragstrip and some off duty police were supplying the security. One Cop came across a guy inside a Van stealing from it. Since South Florida was pretty much the murder and drug capital of the world back then, the Cop approached the van with gun drawn. The thief jumped out and knocked the Cop down, causing his gun to discharge and of course, he was shot. He sued the Sherriffs Department for something like a million dollars for the Cop using unnecessary force and won. The judge decreased his award to $250,000 since he was in the commission of a felony at the time. And no, I simply cannot see any justice in that at all.

As long as the ACLU and liberals are around to protect and coddle criminals, we will always have crazy examples of criminals suing victims and winning in court.

I doubt the cops will charge me with anything.

As far as getting sued, actually I doubt it. but if it did happen what would they get if they managed to win?

I'm afraid the nay-sayers are right. If you booby-trap your car or even your home, the theives will win in court. And, yes, it's the liberals. A while back, Ted Kennedy introduced a bill that made it a federal crime for you to defend yourself in your own home. If someone broke in in the middle of the night, you were supposed to flee your own home rather than defend yourself, your family, and your property. It would have been a federal crime if you had in any way injured the intruder. Luckily, wiser heads prevailed and the bill was defeated.

But think about it next time you're in the voting booth. It isn't just Ted Kennedy who thinks like that; it's a liberal phenomena, as is hiking taxes on everyone for everything. And damn the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. If you want to see the continued erosion of your civil rights, keep on voting democrat and soon they'll be gone forever.
