I picked up a printed copy of the June 1 2015 public edition WT....

Before the end of page 1, the stupidity is already evident.

They quote a dictionary, but don't list which one.

They quote a "world- famous physicist", but don't give his name. The quote looks like it is edited to fit their reasoning.

They quote "others", but no reference to who they are is provided.

The next page quotes "a popular science writer" Who??

Then the classic line "Jehovah's witnesses respect each person's right to make a decision on this matter"

hahahah...yer right....but if your "decision" is not in harmony with what we write, then your decision is clearly wrong!

The Bible shows no science. The Bible even contradicts scientific facts.

After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. (Revelation 7:1)

I wonder if this will be a new wt trend, citing but not actually quoting, people. After that recent debacle misquoting a scientist who called them on it this seems to make sense. They get to borrow supposed experts but can easily say anything they want attributing it to some a supposed authority. The rank and file eat it up as truth and theres no risk of exposure

True Morpheus, but it also will highlight their lack of credibility by the absence of references.

Only dumb people will accept the articles...while people with a brain will discard it as the garbage it is.

LOL. Standard JW and/or fundy response:

"Every verse which has reference to the earth's corners, pillars, foundation, etc. is poetic. Meanwhile, every verse which is vague enough to possibly allow for the remote chance that the description might be literal (e.g. 'hanging the earth upon nothing') is a rock-solid, incontrovertible statement of scientific fact utterly and absolutely beyond dispute."

You might as well tilt at windmills.

They are learning that people are reading their shit, and calling them on misquotes...and wt, is being caught with their pants down..

    Mighty telling.

The practice of not giving citations for the source of academic information is both impolite and ignorant.

The consequence, as Stuck has implied; only the fellow ignoramuses will continue with it. This is a selection process (think of evolution) whereby WT literature will be exclusively for the ignorant and by the ignorant.

If the Org still exists, what will it look like in a few years time if this trend continues? What sort of members do they want; just those with learning difficulties? Will they condemn all learning which does not originate with them? Will they start to say that God hates education? Will they start saying that God only loves the most stupid and ignorant people... like the leaders of the cult?

At least the WTS gives you more to Google in science articles as opposed to most WT study articles. The WTS counts on jws being too lazy to look anything outside their WT publications.

    This.

    It provides a litmus test.

Suppose a wavering JW were to present evidence to another JW, say an elder, that the WT quoted a source out of context (as they have done literally hundreds of times).

What would the response of the elder be?

Not "This is shocking! Why would they do such a thing?"

No, the response would be "Why are you questioning the slave, brother? Seems like you might have too much pride." And from that point on, the wavering JW would be under suspicion and watched closely for any more signs of "apostasy".
