Leaving Hell
Archway above my head
Flames licking my feet
But I remain cold
I walk with my heart in my hands
It sits there, in the palms of my hands... bleeding
It beats slower now...
I see a stairway in the distance...
Beyond the bloodstained walls
The halls filled with an orange hue
And souls scream in the foreground
My heart continues to bleed...
...dripping trails of red as I go
It beats slower now...
My skin is cold to the touch and frost lingers on my nose
Walking these steps seems like such an eternity
And I hold my heart gingerly
It's bleeding away life right in my hands
It beats slower now...
Toes are so cold, but I keep walking
My mind is empty
My soul is blank
My heart is not as bright of a shade of red...
...as it used to be
It beats slower now...
I close my eyes... my head begins to spin
And my body...
It feels so cold... and my teeth begin to chatter
I fall on my knees...
...to the scorching heat of the earthen floor
It beats slower now...
I am almost to the end of the steps now
Eyes blurred, I can still see the sun rise above
Flames lick over my body and the smoke I breath clouds my mind
A tear rolls down my cheek and my hair begins to burn
Then my heart starts to slip away...
It beats slower now...
And I lay there, and begin to die
Something inside of me whispers softly
I muster every bit of strength I have left
And I grab my silent lifeless heart
And place it back in my chest
It beats faster now...
My head, it begins to whirl
I feel a sudden singe of pain
I scream out
Warm air fills my lungs
And I feel it, my veins pumping blood...
It beats faster now...
And my heart beats...
I feel my body rise above the scorched earth
I spread my wings and ascend above
To my freedom... to my home...
