don't go all American on us

That's probably an insult but I'm American and important so who cares. Where is this No-way located???

It wouldn't take much to make soccer popular here stateside. The trouble is that very low rated TV sporting events such as golf and tennis take over the airtimes. Wonder why? Simple really. The TV execs all are capable of playing golf and tennis but certainly couldn't play soccer. This way they can rub elbows with the superstars they've created at pro-am tournaments. I mean watch golf? I think watching fishing might be nearly as interesting.

I will now employ my infamous "reverse Psychology" method to this.

(Ask my missus, every football team that I catagorically state will win a game of Australian rules footy, always loses.)

Thus, I confidently and categorically state BRAZIL will win COMPREHENSIVELY.

(If the poms win, I expect due thanks.)

Punter places 100,000 on England to win cup

A patriotic punter has placed 100,000 on England to win the World Cup.

The unnamed man from the West Midlands staked the six-figure sum at odds of 7/2 at a Ladbrokes shop in Birmingham.

He stands to collect 450,000 if the national side beat Brazil on Friday, win the semi-final and go through to clinch the most prestigious prize in football.

Matt Finnigan, of Ladbrokes, said the massive flutter has prompted them to slash England's odds of winning the competition to 3/1 behind Brazil at 9/4.

He said: "You pay your money, you take your chances. He's certainly spiced up his viewing tomorrow."

The man is described as a shrewd punter who has already placed a number of large bets throughout the tournament, some of them in five figures.

Another Ladbrokes customer has staked a 5,000 treble on Venus Williams to win Wimbledon Ladies singles, Lleyton Hewitt to carry off the equivalent men's crown and England to meet Spain in the World Cup final. If successful, he stands to win 360,000.

Meanwhile, William Hill are hoping America win as they are the worst-backed team in the tournament.

Spokesman Graham Sharpe said they would pocket a 1 million-plus profit if the US carry off the title, adding: "One customer bet 100 on them at 300/1 at the start of the tournament.

Ladbrokes is now offering Brazil at 9/4, England at 3/1, Spain at 7/2, Germany at 7/2, Senegal and South Korea at 14/1, Turkey at 20s and USA at 33/1. end

Just don't let it go to pens!

Funny thing is....I seem to have confidence in that Sven has got everything under control! It wouldn't surprise me if he had them working on pens....but I think we will get it done in the 90. The whole team is playing well....what can you say?! Just do it!

We'll be watching it 'downunder'. It starts here @ 4:30 this afternoon. Eat your hearts out! For once the Aussies can be watching something at a respectable hour.

Do you REALLY think England can win? What a match this could be!

Oh, Simon, the 1966 Final WAS in my lifetime, OK? You youngsters think nothing worthwhile happened more than 20 years ago!!!

Cheers, Ozzie (of the wise old sage class)

    Let's see....

We have the Superbowl for the NFL.

The Pennant for the 'so-called' World Series for Major League Baseball.

A championship ring for the winning team of the NBA.

The Stanley Cup for the winning ice hockey team.

Obviously, us Merkins take our sports seriously. I think it's high time we had that damn cup.

USA--- KICK GERMANY'S BUTT!!!! So you can get on with bringing the cup home!
