A heartbreaking 1-0 loss this morning. I've been up since 4am watching the match. Germany wore us down with their crisp passing and hard play. The US was out of gas towards the end but kept attacking. Fun match and it kept me on the edge of my seat.

    LB,

I totally agree. The USA gave the Deutschlanders all they could handle, and the Germans were relieved to advance. The USA pushed the action and controlled the pace until they tired. But the German goaltender (Oliver Kahn) was outstanding. Germany has now outscored their opponents during this World Cup tournament 13-1. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Germany win the whole thing, although Spain and Brazil will also be worthy opponents (just as the USA was).

Well well Mr. Biggs you seem to think I'm some sort of slut that can be won over by a cute 15 year old girl in the pre boob stage. Got her mommys phone number???

I probably won't root for anyone now to be honest. I'm the same way in my local sports. Once my favorite team is out I just watch the remaining games without really caring who wins.

Actually, she was 18 in that 2nd photo and the 1st photo is her now at the age of 34.

So, now will the bribe work??? LOL!

Despite my ethusiastic cheering for an American side that clearly deserved to win today, the German tactic worked. The American side was good at hiding their weaknesses (like passing) and exploiting their strengths (enthusiasn and pace), but it simply was not enough to overcome Oliver Khan, Germany's absolutely superb goalkeeper. Kudos to the Americans for giving it a good shot, and making it a very good and entertaining game.

I enjoyed watching the game, too, this morning (ha! ha! LB -- only had to get up at 7 AM here in MI -- Bless you for getting up at 4 as I'm not sure I would have.)

And I'm ready to eat my hat or something, for telling E-man that they wouldn't even get this far!

    Great Job, USA Soccer!!!

Funny thing about getting up at 4am, wife thinks I should be doing something around the house now???

She's an attractive 34 year old woman for sure, no PA in a brown blouse but attractive.

The German keeper kept them in the game. On the Americans 3rd serious attempt he made a fantastic save, I threw myself on the floor, waking the wife and beginning the "are you getting an early start on the deck" series of questions.

    Yes,Well Done USA

But lets hope that this will help soccer take a leap foward permanantly in the USA,I mean dont you think its a damn site better game than that American football, all that poncing around in shoulder pads,I would love to see more North Americans getting into proper football.

    Cornish,

Um well no. As lovely as this classic match was today, European football will not displace American football in our culture any time soon. The game with "shoulder pads" is too deeply dyed into our culture from youth on up, and it's the #1 money maker on American television.

The best you likely can hope for is a peaceful co-existence between what we call "soccer" and "football" here in the USA.
