Thanks for the positive comments and sorry for cross-posting. Here is some more info about this project:
When I was running the Mining Co. JW site, I got to know Scott Kurnitt (the founder of Miningco and about.com); he is now one of the people responsible for the new site meetup.com. So when I contacted meetup about the ExJW meetup idea, I was able to push it through pretty quickly. I also told them that I was sure it would generate a lot of interest from the community and would surely be a popular event. That is holding true -- in about two hours we already have more signups than many of the other meetup events.
Please help me publicize this event by talking to other exjws that don't frequent the websites or doing small classifieds in your local paper. Remember, this is a recurring event which has the potential to garner a lot of positive attention for happy life out of the Watchtower. I am especially hoping that Simon puts the link somewhere in the JWD page template so that it gets constant exposure, even when this topic gets old. I really think this meetup idea is one of the best ways for us to get to meet each other in person. It's like the Apostofest concept, but 1000 times bigger and around the world.
