It seems like unless you're incredibly wealthy or lucky that its impossible to have both at the same time, especially if you're a working stiff. Right now between my wife and I we make a fairly decent living, however we don't have a lot of time to do things together (or alone) until the weekend comes around. And we all know how short weekends can be, not to mention if a lot of errands need to be done that can eat up your time fairly quick. For me leaving the borg behind is one of the best decisions I could have made, I could'nt imagine working the job I have now and still having to make countless meetings, book studies and field service time. Then there's the time spent preparing talks and all the other time involved in studying pages and pages of WTS drivel.
All of this got me to thinking would I be happier with less money and more time. I guess the saying the grass is greener on the other side is a good one because I kinda feel that I'd be happier with less money and material possessions and more time to do other things. Just give me a library card and a PC with a internet connection and I'm good to go.
So what do you guys think? more money or more time
Would you rather have more time or more cash?

This year I decided to take a 20% pay cut and work four days a week. Yea, my days eating at good restaurants are over, but to have the extra day to go to the beach, etc. while everyone else is at work is totally worth it.

That sounds great Zen, how did you convince your employers to give you a 4 day week

Amazing
Hi Leander: Great questions. A lot of money on hand can buy time. But often the time it takes to get a lot of money steals so much of our time in our younger years that when we finally have the time and money, we do not have the health needed to enjoy either.

Great question!
I would rather have more time, than cash. I have even thought about doing something similar to zenpunk, of working one day less per week/fortnight. Once I've paid off my car I'd like to do this.
More time to read those books I've bought but never read, go and travel places I'd like to see, time to spend with friends and family.
Yeah, those things are worth more than money.

Lets see one quote comes to mind..."money cant buy happiness"
Id rather be happy with all the time in the world than unhappy and filthy rich.

Certainly more cash than time.
Since leaving the borg over 7 years ago and losing everything I had, son, wife, home, business etc etc I have had a fair bit of time upon which to reflect upon the most viable effective way forwards. Living as I do though in one of the unemployment blackspots of Western Europe, it has not been easy to kick start my finances back into order, so obviously I'd rather go for more cash than time.
Living on the equivalent of 25-30 pounds (about $50-60) for 2 weeks is enough to do anyones nut in, the only way I see out of the situation is to come up with another business idea that way out accelerates my incurred expenses weekly, monthly etc.
The last time I did this I quickly propelled myself from nowt to earning in excess of 240 pounds (two hundred and forty) (aprox $400) an hour inside of 4 weeks. To find a similar breakthrough is what I am working upon at present.
Seriously I'm very worried about this situation at present. My home town has seen for 2 plus years concurrently now, the highest house price rises in the whole of the UK, typically, homes at 94,000 pounds - $138,000 2 years ago are now selling for 160,000 pounds - $220,000. Even to get back on to the first rung of the housing ladder would mean that I realistically have to earn in excess of 35 pounds ($55) per hour net continuously, just to keep my head above water.
The other option is to simply buy myself an old van (about 1300 pounds - $2000), convert it for living in and take to the road, luxurious not at all.
Right at this present time, completely and utterly broke, skint.

Hi Celtic.
House prices in the south west are going stupid,I couldnt agree more with what you say there.
I have earnt high wages in the past,by being away from home and doing silly hours,I learnt from that as I came close to burning myself out.I now earn less, have more time, and am a lot happier.

I need more time. So many things to do and so few hours. I'd like to spend more time with the kids and doing some of the hobbies I remember doing years ago.
I always seem to be working and then I blink and the weekend has gone.
Of course I'd like more cash as well
