"......Some may debate whether there is any connection between Babylon theGreat and some modern entity but it quite clear that if there is any fulfillment at this point in history you would have toconclude that Babylon the Great is the USA......"
Really? Geeze, I always thought it was talking about Madonna.............guess I'll have to "readjust my thinking".
Just because we have lots of money doesnt make us a world 'power'. Yes, it helps, but as they say money isnt everything. Until the End of WWII, the US wasnt a military power. Yes, we had great economy but we had a pitiful military. The Swiss have a lot of money but a piss ass military! Many countries have a higher GNP than IRAQ and yet have a weaker military.
The point I am making is that MONEY does not EQUAL world power. China's $$$$ is nothing compared to ours, but yet they are a world power. Do you think we could take over China??? So how could we be this great babylon?? We couldnt take over a 1/8 of the world if we tried. YES, we could DESTROY the earth with NUKES, but then again so could the USSR. I hate to break it to you but we do not control the earth.
Please don't class an excellent publication like The Economist with the insane drivel of Revelation. Thank you.

p.s. I would recommend reading the article. It is part of a very good analysis of America's role in the current and future world structure, and nothing whatsoever to do with wild religious speculations. I would be pleased to accept a contribution for.....oh never mind.
The trouble with those kinds of statistics is that they are not shown on a level playing field. You are comparing the might of the huge USA with Britain for instance. (we are not part of the united states of europe just yet!!!) Although it is still amazing some of the smaller countries still lead in other areas - and I am not just talking about pollution controls or recycling which the US fails miserably and refuses to participate in international treaties. I mean, I can only talk of the area in which I work, but London still leads the world in 7 out of 10 statistics in banking which I wont bore you with, but London is still the main currency-clearing house of the world for instance.
