Are you thirsting for something? Seeking a higher power? Personally, my life and way of beliefs came to me, it is something that must be found and yet cannot be found... it is inside of you... not in a religion that takes your money and a group of men that forgive your human sins... but you must go within...

    As to the thread....

Well, I don't believe in the 'christian god'. There is no single, all-powerful being who sometimes answers the prayer of someone whose truck broke down but most the time just lets people be gang raped, brutally murdered, mass executed, starve to death, die a slow painful death from any of myriads upon myriads of diseases (where the hell did the virus and bacteria come from if a single all-powerful and loving god was responsible for all life?), etc.

I think there ARE higher powers than we are aware of. They just, collectively, don't care about us. That's not to say that they don't, individually, sometimes interfere for good or ill. Think more like the 1st world relations to the third world. Sometimes the US helps. Sometimes we don't. Sometimes France helps instead. Or, the UK. Or, nobody. Or....

It all really depends on the countries in question and our mood at the time. But, their is no single nation ultimately responsible for all good and evil, who created all the 3rd world nations and is the sole controller of what good and bad happens to them.

    Greetings,

I recently started reading this web-site and the more I read the different posts the more I believe there has to be a God,what one does after admitting one believes in God is another matter.

The simple fact is that us humans have an inbuilt program to worship something, beit money, sports stars, sun, moon, cow, whatever, and if we indeed had evolved we would naturally be happy enough not to feel the need to worship something.

Just checking ferrit - so you believe there is A god? As in, one single, all-powerful, 'loving' etc god as dictated by christians?

Why, then, so much suffering in the world?

And, who created viruses and bacteria? It's not like viruses, at least, EVER serve a beneficial purpose - all they do is infect and destroy living things.

Well the same can be said for humans, are we not destroying the planet at an alarming rate, infact it will be something short of a miracle if we're still around in 100 years,so if there is no God,we dont really have to worry then, because we only have limited time anyway.

Ummmm...no...actually...we aren't. The WTBTS and greenpeace movements would like you to believe the situation is untenable, and that all life will destroy itself if not for divine (or extreme human) intervention.

The truth, I'm afraid, is a little more mundane. Yeah, some spots on the planet are taking a beating from humanity. I'd like to see less pollution everywhere, to be sure. HOWEVER, our *current* level of pollution (it has been MUCH WORSE in the past) is within the ecosphere's abilty to absorb with no long-term damage.

It's a VERY big planet, and we really are still fairly insignificant on it. Hell, look at it today. Would you even know that an asteroid once smashed into it, blotting out the sun, and destroying most animal life?

    VERY resilient planet.

    if there is no God

I don't understand what you are saying.

I asked two questions, and you answered neither of them. Could you please try again.

Why do I believe in God? Well look around! Did all you see happen by chance? The stars you see at night, the moon, the Sun, these are there by what reason? Chance I think not, if evelution is still on why are there not people ending up in the monkey cages? Who made you? you did not end up with wings so you do not need plane tickets. Look around, Look at your life. He is real, you will see Him one day. How will you be prepaired.

Because as any properly education third grader could tell you, evolution doesn't work like that?

    by chance

Creationists love to jump on that 'by chance' thing. No one said evolution was 'by chance'. Indeed, it is the exact opposite. "Natural Selection" (which happens, and you can actually SEE it happening) causes only fit organisms to thrive.

    Who made you

An interesting argument could be made that we have the knowledge to take basic molecules and create 'living' things out of them (small viruses now, but nothing except time prevents us from creating entire human DNA strands).

    Too funny, but accurate

But I am someone that really wants to believe in God. Trouble is, it's hard to believe in anything after experiencing the Borg.
