Just curious, did they get their name from that Costello song Town Cryer?

    julien,

"The hugely popular Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip (platinum
    plated
superstars up here, but unknown outside our borders) got their name
    from a
Mike Neismith (yup, the guy from The Monkeys) film called 'Elephant
    Parts'.
At one point in the film, a character pleads for people to send money
    to
support the tragically hip; those who can't afford hot tubs and
    Jaguars."
