Most girls still like dollhouses....my sister LOVES the one my grandfather made her before he passed away. He was a talented man.
Perhaps a small piece of jewelery (a pendant with your picture in it).
Something small, special, inexpensive and sentimental. I think she'll like those two.

How strange to see a thread I wrote a year ago come back to the surface!
After searching everywhere for the "right" gift, I bought my niece a heart-shaped locket, with her initial engraved on the front. I gave it to her as a "special present" - her mum probably knew that I meant it as a birthday gift but she didn't say anything.
Well, my most favourite little girl in the world is now turning 6. How time flies by!
