Quick Builds - Need Some Info

I've just been told that the KH at Bulli, after being torched, has just been demolished. It is that congregation's (and Austinmer's - they share the hall) intention to rebuild with one of their media circus quick builds. I've learnt from this board and others that quickbuilds are anything but - taking many months of laying foundations and infrastructure along with pre-fabrication. I intend to pop by every week to get dated-inserted photographs of the work as it progresses, the results to be posted here or on another website, or perhaps even to our local rag for when they are invited for the stage-managed one-weekend event.

What I need to know is the best way to get these pics - there is a pedestrian bridge over the highway nearby, so vantage-point isn't a problem. When does the work in preparation for these quickbuilds take place, usually? Weekdays after work? Weekend working bees? What is the usual Society approach to these projects?

The work is usually done on the weekends or on evenings when the members have time. Until the "Big Weekend" people just piddle along on the work when they feel like it. This I learned while helping with a weekend quick-build that took at least six months to build up to.

    [email protected] just piddle along.

I'm not sure how it all works now Stephanus, but when I was involved with a quickbuild project they had a Quick Build Committee and the committee usually utilised experts, usually volunteers from different congregations who specialised in certain areas relating to construction. Groups of experts would be used nationally...and (typical of the WT) each expert would be given an area to oversee...and would recruit labourers or volunteers specialising in their particular field.

I remember the process was ongoing for 12 months or so before the actually construction with each department playing their part in the pre-construction period.

I really resent the money I invested in these projects...especially considering how well off the society is compared ta me!!

Thanks for your input, Elswhere and Beck. That at least confirms what I've been led to believe about "quickbuilds". Now, the question remains: what do you think would be the best approach for trying to get a photographic record of this event? Doing it properly could be quite beneficial for exploding the quickbuild myth. What can I expect to see on the building site over the weeks and months as the work unfolds?

    Steph,

Laying the slab could take place any time, often in the week prior to construction.

    Keep a sharp lookout!

BTW don't be concerned about the vantage point; just front up and they'll probably give you a guided tour!

Don't forget to mention the Board!!

    Cheers, Ozzie

Stephanus, I suggest you plant a mole...someone on the inside....who can leak out information....and maybe you could put together one of those caps with a hidden camera....or plant it in someone's meeting bag....then they can get close up shots from the inside

I'm probably not very helpful - I watch too many movies.

    Ozzie:

"Hello, I'm Captain Linger, of the International Apostate Conspiracy. I'd like to snoop around taking photos which will totally undermine the publicity stunt which you are trying to set up here."

I don't think it's going to work, Ozzie!

Beck: Don't you think I've tried to get a mole?? I can't even get off their "do not call" list - I've even begged for them to send people around to talk to me!

Any more quick build experiences which may be of use here?

    Steph,

You sure it won't work? Maybe you underestimate the mind of the Dub! They're friendly people when they're given the op to give a witness. Try it!

    Cheers, Ozzie

Can someone who has been involved in these things help out here? Where is the pre-fabrication of various bits and pieces done? Is it on site, or at some central location overseen by the building committee? I need more than just the pouring of a concrete slab to make a convincing case. Can't you guys see that I'm trying to expose this magician's trick called a quick build? Like Uri Geller, whose people get in to a stage show before hand and spend hours bending the spoons backwards and forward's until they will bend from the slightest pressure, the trick is done long before the media arrive to take photos of the weekend "quickbuild". I'm prepared to spend weeks on this project to help chip away another of the Watchtower's lies, and you guys can't take five minutes to help me out with a simple set of questions?
