There will be a radio talk show at 8 A.M. Central Time U. S. A. the following Monday, July 15, I will appear on the program, Paul Gillis of Watchtower Public Information has been invited to appear also.   Bill,

  Paul Gillies is a cool customer when under pressure. He's been at the London bethel for some time now. About 3 years ago he was grilled on BBC Radio 2 by Jimmy Young regarding the blood issue and was totally unflappable.

  His technique is to appear reasonable and sympathetic. His accent, whilst English, is neutral and classless, in fact he sounds very warm and human. He will probably agree that it is absolutely dreadful that paedophiles have infiltrated the organisation, and thank the BBC for helping to root them out.

  A tricky customer indeed!

  It will be interesting ...

  I think that *anyone* who is a spokesman has to be a cool & slippery operator - how else can you defend the undefendable. They have so many weakspots the hard part is usually deciding which one to choose.

  Paul Gillis is a very slick and able politician, as has already been noted by E'man. I know him personally and he is particuarly dangerous thinker, in that he can actually see both sides of an issue yet choses to plant himself firmly on the wrong side with puzzling consistency. I always think of the scripture where God says, "They honor me with their lips, but their heart is far removed from me' whenever Paul springs to mind....lol. One thing is certain, if he does appear on the show he will present the WTS side of this issue better than any member of the GB ever could.

  However, that having been said, 'Panorama' interviewers are not easily swayed and if he appears it should make for a very interesting viewing.

  I also doubt that he would appear but you never know. If he is a calm and well-mannered person and comes across as sincere and reasonable you have to be careful to be the same and more so. I have a feeling with what the WT has done lately on the surface to appear to be taking this issue seriously, they might be able to give you a run for your money. I certainly wouldn't get too confident.

  You need to keep in mind that it is the public that basically think JWs are decent (although strange) people and who are unfamiliar with the "double-speak" of the WT that will be "judging" you.

  Yes, they often use 'clever' answers where they leave out the telling stuff. There was a bit like that on the Witnesses of Jehovah video I think (can't remember the line he used ... at a DC)
