Hi Happy,
I can tell you that here in Sweden they have decid today that they must change the system , and from now it is not inaff widh what the children say, they must have some more info who can prove it in some way, WHY, several cases here the children have regret what they say and change ther story,and the peopel who was condemd proven inocent .
Can I ask where you heard this information? Is it first hand knowledge?

Of course, the interesting aspect of this cognative dissonance is that, like you said, there is a finite limit to what a person can take, the 'wall' cracks a little with each morsil of truth that get's through... (I guess that can be the true meaning of "The light gets brighter and brigher").. Soon, the wall can no longer keep the darkness out, and the sun shines in, and the entire WT lies come crumbling down..

Think about what so many gave up to join or stay in this WTS.
- children
- education
- careers
- family
- friends
- recreation
- time for themselves
- health care (Armageddon is coming so don't worry)
- a parent or a child due to the blood policy (how would you feel if your baby died and then found out it was all lies)
- their lives
- pensions (Armageddon is coming)
To sacrifice so much and then find out you were lied to is beyond what many people are capable of. The pain is too great - cognitive dissonance will cover it up and keep them oblivious

The only sad thing I can see about the cognitive disonance finally cracking the wall of denial is that
sometime the individual cracks also. Well I guess that is the price some of them will have to pay>

I said it in an earlier post, The WT is a multi billion dollar corporation and there number one goal is to protect it. If they admitted to guilt this would open up the flood gates of lawsuits to every person that was ever abused by another Dub and was covered up by the local elders. If that happened the GB of the Watchtower corporation might as well hand the keys over right now to all their assets. This may still happen but they will definitely go down with a fight.

Actually, I think it goes further than what we may think.
If a problem was admitted (of this magnitude) the general file JWs would start asking in what way these matters are being handled incorrectly. Then the GB would have to divulge information to the regular JWs such as found in books and letters which most regulars don't know exist. Next thing you know, the regulars will start to consider that they don't have ALL the info the society publishes ... secrets are being withheld from them ... secrets which show how the elder body operates ... a book which spells out the rights of individual members. Stuff of which MOST have never been told. I say MOST, because the majority of JWs are female.
If regular Jws had a copy of the Elder book, how many pathetic JC could the elders get away with committing before being called to task for not following the book...or if most saw what was in that book they may be inclined to think poorly of the Org?
I think they main concern is with the CONTROL aspects.
