I just installed a fresh new hard drive and Windows XP Professional on my computer.

I have to say, I LOVE IT! It boots faster, shuts down faster, and the interface is GREAT! (All the per'ty colors and per'ty pictures) Not to mention that it's ROCK SOLID. I have been running it for several days now without a single crash. I also like that when something goes wrong, it doesn't just say "Error", it not only described exactly what the problem was, but how to fix it. For instance, I installed a program and XP said that it detected an incompatible file in the install. It then directed me to a web site where I could download a fix. WOW!

PS - How's your job situation going? What's the update?

The job situation is some-what improved. I got a contract that will last until August 31, and that pays almost half of what I normally get paid. Better than being unemployed (until Aug 31) - that's what I keep telling myself

Regarding the XP, email me a ne'kid picture and I'll send you a copy of the CD.

Seriously, email me. I might be able to help you overcome your jealousy.

Oh, there is ONE thing about XP that pissed me off. Microsoft has decided to stop supporting Java and did not bundle it with XP. In fact, when I went to a web site that required Java, XP poped and error saying that Java would not be auto-installed and that MS did not have a plug-in.

I had to go to the Sun web site (www.sun.com) to download their Java plug-in for XP. I think MS shot themselves in the foot with this one - you don't FORCE your users to patronize your competitors!

no, actually, I think Sun shot themselves in the head !

Sun were pleased that they stopped Microsoft being able to develop and distribute their own Windows enhanced version of Java by getting a court ruling.

Unfortunately, Windows being the biggest platform out there meant that when MS dropped the Virtual Machine from the next version of Windows it was a big blow to Sun who then went to court trying to force Microsoft to include it. The Windows XP release had already gone Gold though so now Sun miss out on having their runtime software available on the latest version of the most popular OS.

XP is great isn't it? I like the context menu's where the options down the left relate to what is selected ... choose a pic for instance and the things you are most likely to want to do with it are offered (print it, order prints, email it to someone etc ...)

It makes things like importing pics from Digital Camera's very easy too.

The next version of the forum will look a lot more XP'ish:

    Looks good so far!

How do you find the time??? Work, Family, General Responsibilities, JW.COM, etc......

I keep telling myself that I will work on my personal web site (for web consulting) but it seems like I never have the time.

Got XP a few moths ago. It was great and fantastic, sigh, those beautiful golden days. Now, my computer is as screwed up as ever before. If I try to open a new window I honestly can walk to my kitchen, put on a kettle of water, make some tea, come back, only to find that the window still hasn't opened.

Getting just a wee bit frustrated with it.

    However, congrats on your XP!

    Viv.

Windows 2000 is basically XP without all the fluff. Been using the SAME installation for 2 years now, I've installed piles of software, and it's never crashed (apart from the time I tried getting my video card to draw 700 million triangles) or gone bad on me. Now THAT is stability. It's almost as good as LINUX!

Got to say - the new version looks great. When is it set to come online?

    One question about XP:

Did you have to (re)register to MS whenever you install a new software in your PC?
