I read today that Rachel was brought up in one of those fundamentalist homeschooling cults that uses 'breaking the child's will' as discipline, but is really physical child abuse.
I don't think this is an excuse for her fraud and it was right for her to lose her job, but I do understand now why she would want a new identity.

So when her kid fools around in a grocery store and breaks stuff, they automatically claim phantom voices calling out of the evening using the N-word, and they ran into the store in fear. The only running that people do when they hear the N-word nowadays to toward the source in order to confront it.
