I always wanted to go to one, then found out the cost. Then found out why they cost so much. Now the requirements this year are so extreme, I feel sorry for the newly baptized and the single sisters! You either have to be an elder or ms or pioneer for 15 years in order to attend (or the spouse thereof).

Single sisters have it so hard, they really never get to enjoy any of the privileges unless they want to marry Brother Abusive or Brother Ne'er do Well or Brother Nerd.

    That is extreme!

The times I have gone on International Convention tours, the main requirement was that you were a publisher in good standing. It's strange that they've got so strict - maybe some people haven't acted as they were supposed to, so they've made sure they only get died-in-the-wool Dubs.

Simplesally, it may be different where you are but in this area all you have to be is a baptized publisher in good standing. The last set of international assemblies (1998?) did have stringent requirements. I think they didn't get the numerical turnout they wanted and so have lowered the restrictions. Now the congregations in your area may have upped the restrictions due to a larger response.

    You're such a liar...

Hey, I guess you don't have any idea about next year conventions....It is clear than is going to be easier to attend, that was what I really hear at the convention...and I say hear cause I am not going to conventions just to bicth about everything I saw there.

Please be better informed, next year you only have to be baptized publisher and the cost are going to be reduced so please, don't say lies and get better informed

My recollection is that anyone could attend an Internatinal Convention at anytime. The cost was ""reduced"" if a JW particiapted in the ""Society arranged travel,"" because they could get special discounts. In that case, being a Publisher in good standing is all that has ever been required.

In some cases, especially when the Society wanted visitors from other nations to be at certain conventions, they either footed the bill, or got the publishers in some locations to pay for certain ones to travel ... in those cases they often chose Reg and Special Pioneers. I recall some African visitors in their native costume visiting Oakland California Convention ... they were paraded upon the platform and talked about Pioneering, etc. In those cases, yes, stricter requirements were imposed.

I don't remember those rules - In fact, I had just hopped out of a committee meeting (in trouble again) to attend one in Hungary in 1991.

    Hi Simplesally,

From what I've heard about those International Assemblies, and how restrictive they are. You're not missing anything

The costs will be reduced because less is offered as far as sightseeing and excursions and I think the time period is shorter.

According to the letter read at my congregation, the expense is quite costly, the requirements are more strict, and they held a 'Resolution' for us to send money to help foot the bill. They said that any excess contributions for the expense of the International convention will go to the world-wide work.

    Sally,

If you enjoy posting here, you would not enjoy the trip!

We went to Eastern Europe once. I did enjoy it at the time but my priorities have changed a bit since then. The pace was a killer, in fact we spent one day in the hotel because my wife had just had enough and needed to rest. It was great meeting all the people from all over, but sitting through a lot of talks in foreign language is hard to take at the best of times.

Save up and go to an Apostofest instead!
