Matty, I was thinking how hard it must be for her to keep up with her door-to-door records. I can't even imagine it. Does she hand the householder all her stuff, so she can write?

Too right! It's difficult enough at the best of times, you have to put stuff on the floor and stand on one leg and use your knee to lean your notebook on!! I'm thinking now that if Jehovah really wanted us to go on the door-to-door work he would have created us with three arms!

Henry Casper! I recall him. We had him as a CO in our congregation in Rome, NY.Don't remember much about him tho....seems like he was ok.

He can't be that 'ok', if he can't even buy Karen a bookbag.

I know, Mattie! Yeah, they said we would be hated by the world. Just watching us go door-to-door, making fools of ourselves, would be enough to make the nicest person hate us (never mind the obnoxious message of 'be us or die!' we brought to them).

Windchaser, I'm still one of those fools now! I must admit though my ministry has changed a lot since I don't believe in the witness religion anymore! I'm not bothered about pushing the dumb-ass magazines, on the rare occasion I get to talk to people I've just been chatting to them about their faith, and how they got to feeling that way, and really listening to them for the first time! Unfortunately it has worried me that householders have become more receptive to me since I lost my faith! Last week, the person I was on the door with said to me of one householder: "Well, that was an interesting chat you had, but we didn't really get anywhere putting the truth across and we didn't place anything!". I said, "Well, we made him think, thats the main thing".

    LOL@Matty

That's exactly what my "ministry" comprised of, for the last few months before I left.

Yes, you have become a caring person who actually listens to the person at the door. (((Matty)))

We are encouraged to listen at the service meeting, but do we truly listen to the householder? This listening we are told to do is only for the purpose that we can use what they say to get our own line of reasoning across to them.

There is a big difference between a courteous exchange of ideas where both parties get something out of the discussion and just absorbing and processing information from someone so you can twist it to your own ends to try to manipulate and modify someone's viewpoint.

Okay.....maybe I still do have "issues"......criminy. After reading this upbeat (gag) article about door-to-door witnessing I became increasingly agitated!

Jeremy is walking alongside his mother. They stop at one house displaying a "No Soliciting" sign, but are not deterred. Mrs. Berger says she figures the sign applies to people selling things, not Witnesses spreading good news. Unless a sign says specifically "No Jehovah's Witnesses" -- which some do -- she generally knocks.

    This p.o.'d me!

"Good morning, how are you?" Mrs. Casper starts in, her face a happy smile. "I know you weren't expecting anyone. We just thought we'd brighten your day a little bit. . . ."

Okay, if ANYONE talked to me like this on a Saturday morning when I wasn't expecting visitors........aarrgghhh......a comment like that certainly wouldn't "brighten my day".

Guess I need more work, peeps. More issues to iron out! Oh the hours I wasted door knockin'!

Matty....you just summed up everything that I learned at Pioneer School!
