After I left the JWs I kept my online identity quiet. I left before the Internet really took off - and before I had my own PC. Then, after leaving I was threatened somewhat, and upon the advice of the Sheriff, I kept a low profile. But now, it matters not for me. My family is out and whatever friends were going to come of of the JWs have done so ... it has been a little over ten years since I left, and now my real identity is out. I recommend taking things slowly and follow what the above posts say about this. Weigh your circumstances, and take your time.
Revealing ID safe here?

I have never done anything to hide my real name and whereabouts on the Net, and I have been online since 1992. I have never had any problems.

: Is it safe to reveal your identity, location, personal details, etc. on this site?
If you are still a dub or have family/friends in the WTS and as long as there are dubs on this planet, the answer is "NO."

That's because even the CIA doesn't know where "Bergen" is located. There are precisely TWO people on this planet who know its whereabouts: you, and the other guy who lives there. Everyone else who did know about it, froze to death years ago.

It all depends on 2 things....
1--How paranoid you are
2--What you have to lose if you are fonud out.
Yo will have to decide on that but just remember that the internet is a very large place....and even with a few personal hints such as a first name or a country...chances are still a bit slim that someone you know will actually find you.
On the other hand---I did run into someone I knew here. However it wasn't a bad thing and although I am paranoid I didn't have much to lose.

I Really don't care if the Watchtower Spies know who I am or what I am doing.
I will even give them all the details if they ask.

Actually, the other guy drank himself to death last Saturday, leaving only me.
But, well, the CIA learned where Kabul is last year. They may find Bergen one day.
Psst: Here is Bergen right now (don't tell the CIA!): http://kamera.ba.no/bilde.cgi?id=vagen;lang=no

I wondered the very same thing. I saw people who had obviously been posting a very long time, with no personal info at all in their profile.
Obviously we all have our own reasons for being on here. Also, depending upon our situation, we may still have family members "in", or other friends or acquaintances in various stages of "in", out, df'd, da'd, questioning, curious".
I was think after I posted my "surviving the hearing to disfellowship me", that I would be more than happy if someone that knew me back "when", would find me on here, and see the way it was, and how far I've come as a human being, living life normally, on the "outside". Other's might just be curious. That's why I put a good bit of info in my profile.
I did get a strange email from a "TP"--I won't even state his name. I had no idea who he was until I searched for his posts. I found them. I was enlightened. I believe now he may be using another new name.
But, anyway, the only thing I ask is that if someone wishes to email me from here, they need to use JW forum in the subject line. Otherwise, it might not get opened. This person sent me a contaminated attachment. He may not have know it was, but my system caught it. This is the only thing that does concern me to some extent.
I don't mind speaking about myself more personally, but I try to be careful about giving out personal information about anyone else close to me. I honor their privacy. As for me, I feel I have things to share that might help someone else. Give them hope. Encourage them in their journies. I know I have a lot to learn myself.
I try not to be overly paranoid. But my naive tendencies have hurt me in the past. So, one step at a time in most all things. If I feel comfortable, then full speed ahead.
