    I made a comment, but it's *disappeared*.

Looking at an account that is left open, or has no password, is not hacking. Knowing your relative/friend's password and using it to read their private correspondence is not hacking.

Hacking is 'breaking in' to another person's account by using your technological know-how. I doubt this happens a lot in JW world..

If you leave your diary on the counter, and someone opens it and reads it, that is one thing. But if your diary is in a locked box, and they pick the lock so that they can read it, that is another. And that's the difference between taking advantage of someone who is not protecting their privacy by proper use of passwords, and hacking their account

It's wrong (of course!), but it's not illegal to read someone's email if they left it open, or don't have it password-protected. That is completely different from hacking, which I assume would be illegal in many jurisdictions.

Dude, if anyone went snooping through my phone, computer or anything, I'd put them through a wall.

WTF, if they don't respect boundaries then teach them to.

pretty pathetic to be so anxious to get something on someone you supposedly love like a bro/sis..........

An elder and ministerial servant physically broke into my buddy's house and went through his stuff looking for dirty magazines. This was before the internet.

I fix computers as a hobby. I had on numerous occasions Elders ask me if I saw anything inappropriate on computers of some individuals in our congregation. I usually just tell them that I fix problems not make them. If someone is doing what is "wrong", that is between them and God...none of my business.

hoser, that does not surprise me. As EE would say, SMDH Sad but true.

There was a guy here who the elders suspected of adultery (they were right), and they stalked him for a long time, literally sitting in cars 24-7. watching his house, and following him until he was finally caught. My parents told me about it, not realizing how it looked through my eyes. Umm, that's not only wrong (ie, none of their business), but it's illegal.

I guess it must come under the heading of "Theocratic Warfare"TM, so in these cases, it's okay to 'break Caesar's Law'. *puke*

WOW!! Is all I can say.

All these accounts of people being snooped on, stalked, or having their house broken into, have me thinking WTF?!?

    Question:

Suppose you have a couple. Wife is JW, hubby's not, never was, never will be, hence he's not considered 'apostate.' Hubby has good relationship with wife, and he 'gets along' with the elders. How likely is it that these elders will go snooping on a couple/family like this one. Knowing full well that the 'unbelieving' hubby isn't subject to their stupid rules, and he keeps a 12 gauge shotgun in the house.

    Anyone??

Seriously, I don't know if the elderoos see me as a: potential recruit, a threat to congregational unity, or a mixture of both.

Like I say. Wife and I get along well. I have a pretty good job, am educated, and I like to do cool stuff with my family (travel, outdoors, sport events, ect.)

Elders know I'm very protective of my kids, and would deal with any possible abuse issues in a very brutal manner. Just wondering if they get to suspecting something about her, maybe not being 100% R&F JW, then how far would they push this snooping/stalking/harrasment, knowing that I'm around.

Boeing, Bullies don't pick on the strong or the protected. Your wife is relatively safe with you as her shield as long as she doesn't flaunt anything the elders view as "unacceptable".
