Jesus, Pharisees, and JWs

    Hi all,

I was reading a little bit of the Greatest Man Who Ever Lived book today and when I began to read chapter 85 ( Searching For The Lost ), something was crystal clear.

    I read this:

" The Pharisees and scribes treat common people like dirt under their feet. In fact, they use the hebrew expression `am haa'rets, "people of the land [earth]," to show the disdain they have for such ones. On the other hand, Jesus treats everyone with dignity, kindness, and compassion."

The first thing that came to my mind was what I read in one of the Kingdom Ministry rags printed by the WBTS INC.

    In the 5/99 Kingdom Ministry:

"Some of the food vendors in the convention facilities being used are now demanding that they be allowed to open their food stands and serve the delegates attending our conventions. If this were permitted, many "worldly" people would be mixing in company with us during the day."

I could see how much the JWs are taught to imitate and act just as the Pharisees.

that's all for now folks. :-)

    peace,

    somebody

I'm reading the Greatest Man book because more than one person on this board told me that reading that book made them realize that they needed to leave the JW cult. They could see that they were not imitating Jesus at all by serving the WBTS after they read it. I think it's bizarre that the WBTS wrote a book that actually helped some of their own followers leave them! HA! Maybe that's why they rarely disperse any spiritual food about Jesus anymore.

Anyhoo..... I'll accept that subscription to MAD magazine! thanks!

    peace,

Wonder what kind of explanation a JW would give to this? I'm sure they'd have some trumped up response.

It's so frustrating when things like this are so obvious to most people...but you can't seem to get THEM to see it. Great post. I'm copying this!!

I am continually wonderous out how the wt uses language that drops themselves right in it. Such as being the locusts (from the pit nonetheless), or choosing a stake for a symbol (with no breadth of love), or earning your way to the kingdom which is the opposite of Christ - "it is your Father's pleasure to give you the kingdom".

The pharisees did much the same by calling people "of the earth". Humble literally means "down to earth", not subservient as the wt makes out - but plain truthful, through and through, whether or not it may bring out offense in some folk. People were offended at Christ, but He sure didn't suck up to them about it in words - He had something truthful to say about the way of the pharisees, something "down to earth".

"let your yes be yes and your no be no" I hope that I''ve been "of the earth".

    Bona Dea:

here IS the CANNED response right from the same KM:

    *** km 5/99 3-6 1999 "God's Prophetic Word" District Conventions ***
    1999
    GodsPropheticWordDistrictConventions

20 Because we welcome the public to our conventions, it is wise to take precautions regarding children and personal belongings. Our children are a precious gift from Jehovah. But we know that the world reflects Satans predatory nature. Hence, please know where your children are at all times. Also, cameras, purses, and other valuables should be with you at all times and not be left at your seat. Make sure that your vehicle is locked, and place personal belongings in the trunk or take them with you. This reduces the temptation for someone to break into your vehicle.

so....its OK that they "welcome the public", but just not "the public" who will take the very precious $$$$$$ off of the WTBTS printing business INC. by selling food to starving people who have been listening to mind boring drivel for the last 4 hours.

    give me a break.

Somebody : I take it the Greatest Man is Society Literature. I haven't stayed in touch but I sure appreciate reading some of the info here on the board. For example the KM on disfellowshipping was another eye opener.

Zev: So they are still locking up their worldly goods from the worldlings at the conventions I remember that many years ago.

when you get your subscription from Mad could I borrow a few of them?

You could also compare the Pharisees attitude toward "the people of the earth" to the WTS's take on the "other sheep".
