Farkel and blondie are right on.

I pioneered in the deep south, Georgia in the late sixties. There were seperate KH's for white's and black's.

The funny thing is, most of the publisher's in the white congregation's when assigned field service, would go door to door including black householder's. "Come to our meeting on Sunday, but you will have to drive 75 miles outa town to your own KH.

I was a book study conductor in the home of a long time witness in McRae Ga, on my last nite of conducting the study, before returning to Calif, I asked the brother's and sister's attending; What would you do if the society said to open your home's to the black brother's ........without any exception.......they all said they would 'not do so'.

I realized or had confirmed then and there, we are products of our upbringing, and it takes year's sometimes to change our thinking.

    Hi minimus:

I ditto Ashi's comments. Racial prejudice wasn't evident in any of the halls we belonged to. But, there was plenty of social prejudice. If you didn't fit into a certain clique in the hall, you were left out of most of the social occasions. Most of these cliques were made up of the families of the "older men" class. If you didn't have a position of some kind, you were probably left out. I saw alot of social prejudice in all of the halls we attended.

How do we feel about Jews and other Middle-Easterners? Do we harbour prejudice against them?

Everyone has been affected and everyone has been prejudiced at one time or another.

Years ago the union sent me out to a hispanic shop. I was the only white guy and the only guy that couldn't speak spanish. I worked hard for the couple of weeks I was there but trust me, I got every crap job and never once did anyone speak to me or even sit by me at lunch. It was lousy. I quit after a couple of weeks. The funny thing is on the next large project I was in charge and many of those same guys worked for me. They were much more pleasant then. Which was fine, I only wanted to make money and most were hard skilled workers.

I believe I've worked hard at supressing my prejudice but it can surface every so often. I don't recall ever canning someone because of skin color or even making a racial comment. But still it can be a stereotype or thought that will cross my mind.

When I was playing a lot more racquetball my doubles partner was a black man. He loved to make lots of "honky" comments. We had a running banter that I'm sure confused lots of our opponents. So I guess at that time I made some racial comments. He once told me it was cool to call him a nigger, as long as another black person wasn't around. Usually I just called him BB which was short for black bastard.

    See, I'm a bigot.

Yes, I've been affected by it. I'm so tired of being discriminated against for being so damned good looking and sexy.

    slipnslidemaster,

I'm so happy to know I'm not the only one that happens too.
