I don't to get to dive very often, but I think it's one of the most wonderful and enjoyable things in this world. I never get tired of being under the water.
I'd like to go back to Grand Cayman to go on their new shark dive and hang out on those beautiful corral walls that drop off into the blue oblivion. However, I'd forsake that for a scuba apostofest in Florida if we could make it happen.
I've been to Cozumel, the Grand Bahama and Grand Cayman.
Would like to try Florida and a live aboard in Costa Rica. Costa Rica has immense schools of fish and lots of hammerhead sharks when El Nino is not in full swing.

I started scuba diving in 1993. CMAS*, PADI AOWD, doing my PADI RescueDiver right now. Around 150 dives now (mainly in the Read Sea, the Indian Ocean, the Andaman Sea and the Caribbean Sea. Some dives in German lakes, a Swiss stream and the Mediterranean Sea).
When you're in Florida, you should definitely do a short trip to Mexico/Yucatan: In a small village called Tulum (around 1hr south from Cancun) you can do incredible dives in sweet water cenotes.

Nix, You've been to some of the best places. Could you tell us more about the "sweet water cenotes"? Tulum isn't that far from Cozumel.

Scuba??? Most fun you can have while wearing rubber.
I dove the weekend of the NW apostafest and would love to dive fla and meet some people that trip also. If the tickets are good, we're there.
I have been diving over 30 years now. I go weekly at the minimum and will dive anything anytime. Since I'm 3 hours from the ocean it's mostly fresh water diving now. Next weekend I'm back up in Edmonds and we are going to dive one day with Steve (Mr Princess) and see if we can grab a few crabs.
Hopefully next year I"ll be able to relocate on Maui where I will be able to dive almost every day. My little retired guy job will be assiting on dive boats and leading tourists on dives.

MegaDude,
It's more or less like cave diving - but you don't go that deep into the cave - max. is around 60 meters from the entrance (real cave diving is also possible - with the Brevet "Cave Diver"). The (fresh) water is 24 degree warm, cristallin clear - the visibility is endless (I'd guess far more than 60 mtrs).
You normally reach the entrance by car and by walking the last metres through the forest. Strange feeling, when you are used to boat trips
We went diving with the "Aktn Dive Center", a small dive center directly at the main road from Cancun. They also have some rooms (clean but quite... well, there's a bed and a shower...) and a very nice small restaurant (the best Fajitas on earth *sigh*).
There are some nice pictures on this page: http://www.aktundive.com (Our Services -> Cavern Diving)
HTH,

P.S. Cozumel isn't that bad either... the Palancar reef is very nice, but too crowded...

I'm certified with PADI. I did most of my diving in warm water in Aruba. I love night dives the best! Everything is much bigger and more of it at night. They have two airplanes they anchored above the coral. One is a Twin Beach Craft and the other is a DC3. We dove alot of wrecks while in Aruba. There is a German tanker in about 65 feet of water off the shore. They take you up inside an air pocket..it's really cool.
My experiences in cold water are not good. Rhode Island was the only place we had to dive living in Ct. we had only the Long Island Sound. No visibility. The diving in RI at least gave us about twenty feet on a calm day. The water is too cold to really enjoy it. You need a full 1/4" wetsuit with boots, gloves and hood and that gets too restrictive for me. I'm spoiled with the Carribean...LOL. I haven't had the chance to dive since I moved to TN. Tink and I visit her brother in FT. Lauderdale, Fla. but all we did there was snorkle diving. I'd love to join you guys and meet you at a combination dive/apostafest. Let us know. Thanks.

Night diving is the best. Even in fresh water you see things that just don't come out during the day. I use the thick wetsuits in cold water diving. I am going to purchase a dry suit. It's a world of difference. You are always comfortable. You can still use a BC and inflate the drysuit with argon gas. Get a little chilled, little blast of argon and you're toasty.
