It mentions about the "Union of JW's", sounds like this group could be a break off from the WT. In Romania there are a number of groups like this. The True faith JW's & Association of JW's are two groups that stick to Rutherfords teachings. They believe the WT as turned Apostate. They got cut off from the WTS in the 2nd WW, then under communist rule had no contact with the Borg. There is a Web site if you do a search.

Hi Qwerty,
There are some of thes break-away groups in Eastern Europe. But this "Union of JW's" is just the legal name in use by thes Brooklyn-loyal Witnesses. I just checked http://www.jw-media.org/ . This official WT-site mentions the same attacks.
Greetings,

This saddens me. Much as I deplore many of the things JWs believe and do, such personal attacks are never justifiable. The hypocrisy of so-called Christians assaulting precious men, women and children makes a laughing-stock of the Golden Rule. Reminds me of the Crusades and Inquisition.

I posted this in another thread earlier. It's awful. I can't believe sometimes,
How MANY people still think and act like Mid Evil Times.
It's incredible that they can't see how completely ignorant they are.
They must have IQ's in the 10's

Attack Disrupts Georgian Congress
ASSOCIATED PRESSTBILISI, Georgia- Assailants attacked a group of Jehovah's Witnesses in the former Soviet republic of Georgia andset a fire at the home of one its members, disrupting plans to hold a religious congress there, a lawyer for the group said Friday.
Supporters of Vasily Mkalavishvili, a defrocked Georgian Orthodox priest who rails against evangelicalgroups, blocked off roads leading into the town of Kaspi, 45 miles west of the Georgian capital Tbilisi, where Jehovah's Witnesses planned to hold a meeting, said lawyer Manuchar Tsimintiya.
The crowds stopped buses heading into town Friday and tried to force passengers to make the sign of the cross, which is a tradition in Orthodox Christianity but not among Jehovah's witnesses. Those who refused were attacked verbally and treated roughly, in some cases dragged out of the buses by force, Tsimintiya said. Police did nothing to intervene, he said.
In a separate pre-dawn attack Thursday, unidentified assailants broke into the yard of Ushangi Bunturi, a Jehovah's Witness in Kaspi who planned to host the congress, and burned a stage that was to be used for the event. Later, on Thursday night, 25 followers of Mkalavishvili broke into the yard, burning religious literature and damaging some equipment, Tsimintiya said.
Local law enforcement officials had approached Bunturi several times, asking him to refuse to host the Jehovah's Witness congress because they couldn't guarantee security, Tsimintiya said. The authorities forced Bunturi to sign a letter taking full responsibility for the event, but he added a footnote saying he had been forced to sign the letter.
About 1,000 Jehovah's Witnesses had been expected to gather at Bunturi's house, where they have held congresses since 1996.
According to the Interfax news agency, the U.S. Embassy released a statement saying it had expressed concern to Georgia's leadership about the disruption of the congress. After President Eduard Shevardnadze met Friday night with U.S. Ambassador Richard Miles and a visiting U.S. congressman, Lloyd Doggett, a Texas Democrat, a Georgian official said Shevardnadze and the government "strongly condemned the rampage," Interfax reported.
The U.S. Embassy could not be reached for comment.
Mkalavishvili, a fiery speaker who was defrocked seven years ago by the Georgian Orthodox Church, opposes the activities of Baptists, Pentecostalists and other evangelical Christian groups that have sprung up in Georgia since the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.
His followers have frequently attacked Jehovah's Witnesses, disrupted their meetings, and burned books and brochures printed by the group. More than 70 percent of Georgians are Orthodox Christians, though only a fraction of that number regularly attend church.
This defrocked priest certainly hasn't learned from history. The more you attack groups the stronger they will become, even increasing in converts. Better to leave them alone. The Orthodox make up 70% of the population. Give me a break. There were expected at this congress about 1,000 Jws--that's a drop in the bucket, so to speak. You would think that the whole Republic of Georgia is becoming J.W. the way this guy and his followers are acting.
"It's a rainy night in Georgia"
Hi Rado,
Headquarters will no doubt use parts of an article like this to feed the persecution complex mill. What they will fail to include will other quotes from the article such as... "But other faiths that operated underground in Soviet times have also flourished in recent years..... For many ardent Orthodox followers, the growth of other denominations represents a threat to the traditional dominance of their church."
The Orthdox folk over there don't appreciate any other (Protestent) groups trying to evangelize over there. They give other groups a hard time too...
".....They filled the baptismal pool with diesel fuel." That happened once before, many years ago...led to the ban on smokingLOL

for many years I've told many JWs that comparing religions have nothing to do with Persecution. Then some idiot or mental retards, attack a JW assembly in the country of Georgia. What took place is very much persecution, especially from the religious corners. Now I have to start from scratch again.
Now I must take a stand. There is no love lost when it comes to the Watchtower Society, but for those who thought it would be so cute to ruin an assembly of Jehovah Witnesses,I'm very ashamed of all of those christians who supported this kind of attack. This is religious persecution. As far as I'm concerned religious persecution dos not belong here or anywhere.
Brooklyn/patterson loves this kind of stuff. It can use persecution to distract dubs from wt problems.
