What are JW's embarrased to say to interested ones

My latest addition to my thread "Armageddon - JW speculations" got me thinking. I was talking about JW's, and how they will avoid telling people at the doors that they believe they will be the only ones to survive Armageddon.

I know when I was a JW, there was certain things that I was embarrased to tell interested ones about, and prefered to avoid the issue, or prance around it, trying to make it sound less harsh, or make me look like a complete nut.

When I talk to my Jw family now, I notice there are certain issues that they will try to deny about the organisation, constantly. I ask myself why? Is it because deep down they dont believe it themselves, and know it comes out sounding like a cult like mindset? I know that's why I was embarrased to say certain things.

I know from my experience, that the JW's I know will try to make the org sound as mainstream and normal as possible to their house holder. When certain things are brought up, they will avoid the issue, when in fact, they can give a straight answer.

E.G _ Do Jehovahs Witnesses think they will be the only ones saved?

JW: Well, Jehovah can only judge peoples hearts, not us.

My family gets embarrased admitting that JW's put the organisation first over peoples heart conditions, when someone cannot give a talk without a tie. This is because it makes the org sound very cult - like and controlling.

So, I guess my question is, when you were a JW, what were the things you were embarrased to admit to interested ones? And what certain issues do you think JW's would prefer not to discuss now with these ones?

(I think the child abuse issue goes without saying)

I never asked for donations...downplayed holidays, sort of an aloof, "no really I don't mind not celebrating"

I tried to not talk about men being in charge either. Like women were just as good, yeah right, and held just as good a place as men in the eyes of Jehovah.

I hated asking for donations. I could always justify the fact that Jehovah was going to wipe out all non-believers...it was done on a smaller scale in the bible from time to time and was easier to reason with bible minded individuals. But the donation offer used to really challenge me...it used to feel like begging. I got to the point where I used to pay for the damn things myself and would just give them away to get rid of them to call them a placement...it always looked good on my publishers card.

let's see........that is a tough one; the worst thing to admit I think is that we are the only ones not going to get toasted at Armageddon; that we are the only ones who have the truth. I used to use a cop out that my elder pioneer partner used: From my research i think that what i have found here is the truth; each one must make his own search.
That way they don't know that when we walked away we wrote them down as someone whose eyeballs would be plucked by vultures at armageddon.

what they're thinking - "we know bible stuff, you don't - that means you're birdseed"

The opener is predictable - I think 'here it comes'; and they say something like, "what do you think of the state of the world these days". Everytime, it reminds me of scripture - they'll talk about the world because they are of the world
