Angelic protection-how does that work again?

We read of recent events, 5 JW children killed in a car accident, JW's caught and beheaded and be-tongued (and not necessarily in that order) in the Phillipines, a busload of Witnesses burnt to death in Spain on the way to the District convention (some years back). And so on and so on....

Yet the WT and Bible too tell us "Have No Fear because Jehovah and his myriads of angels are watching over us and will protect us."

Well, they do a pretty crappy job at it! Not even being engaged in "Theocratic" activity offers any better odds of survival.

Trying saying "Thanks Jehovah" after they cut your tongue out!

And my JW mothers' standard defense is "Well time and unforeseen circumstances befall us all!"

    Well, thats an easy cop-out!

But whats the point of Jehovah's Witnesses believing in divine protection, if Jehovah himself is unable to offer protection in the face of that all-powerful "Time and unforeseen circumstances..."

My advice to JW's is : Better off worship the God of "Time and Unforseen circumstance", he is more powerful than your puny Jehovah and the myriad of lazy-ass angels. They are all probably living off Unemployment benefits like the majority of JW's anyway.

While not having the time to pick up this discussion right now, just a small correction: You stated that "a busload of Witnesses burnt to death in Spain on the way to the District convention (some years back)."

Actually, they were not on their way to a convention, but they had been out on a Saturday or Sunday trip, some friends together; while this does not alter the terrible tragedy thathappened, many people frying to death being caught in the burning bus, then it was, as I said, not in any way connected with a convention.

Old Hippie, I appreciate that correction....I was living in Germany then and I always thought it was a bus to the convention...I read the article in the newspaper, how the trapped people were screaming to be let out but the doors jammed.....

    Anyhow, my apologies.....

No problem; but the interesting point is of course the one about angelic or divine aid. When I read about this tragedy, and ever since, the stories about how angels have seemingly interferred in minor occurences, have totally lost their impostance or meaning or credibility in my eyes. Why should there be angelic or divine interference in the instance related some years ago, when a female Witness managed to grow strawberries so big that people came from far and near to buy, and was thus able to travel to the convention - or why the divine interference with the French fishery vessel owner, who did not fish during the convention, much to the anger of his non-Witness crew, but then after the convention they seized a record-breaking catch - but then, why no divine interference when half a Spanish congregation including children are burnt to death inside a bus? Or when Filipino Witnesses are beheaded? Or when a family is murdered after having engaged in preaching to a youth group, as happened to the Lillelid family? Or when an unborn child is slashed out of the mother's womb?

Time and circumstances are beginning to win in my eyes over divine or angelic aid ...............

Well, since there are no such things as angels, how can they protect anyone?

It all just comes down to luck. Some good, some bad. IMO.

    It works like this:

When bad things happen to JW's, it proves that we are living in the last days, and that Satan is persecuting God's true followers.

When good things happen to JW's, it proves that we are living in the last days, and Jehovah is blessing his true followers.

When good or bad things happen to non-JW's, it is "time and unforeseen occurence".

I think the Kingdom song "Myriads of angels" should be re-written somehow...

    "Myriads and myriads of angels
All sitting on their big fat ass....."

What about the JW who worked at the twin towers office building but was late to work on Sept 11. Was he a BETTER witness then the ones we are reading about who have tragically lost their lives?

I think Fe2O3Girl hit the nail on the head!!
