    Hi

For those of us raised as JW's . Do you ever wonder who you may have become. For most of us we were never allowed to explore our full potential growing up. Never knowing if we could have been a great football player playing for the NFL or perhaps an actor or musician or even a doctor or lawyer. What was the reason given not to pursue a talent ( it may take us away from serving Jehovah) If we have fame and money they are saying we will not keep serving Jehovah but if we are poor and uneducated we will stick with the "truth". In reality it's is a way to control their members. What do you think?

If you're a Witness, think back to Marlin Brando in On The Waterfront

"you were my brother, you shoulda looked out for me

I coulda been somebody, not just a bum"

    or words to that effect

I think I would have been a porn star. Darn those Witnesses for not letting us exceed in our own skills!!! ;)

    Omega, Welcome.

For me, it wasn't necessarily "what could you have become." Although, in my heart, I'm an ER Doc or Trauma Surgeon.

I think of it more in terms of what potential millions of kids never explored.

IE, my husband. He was an All-American Basketball player in High School, full scholarship and outstanding college player. He was also a serious academic student.

He never played in the NBA, which wasn't really all that big 25 years ago. But, he has been successful in his other college major, business.

He doesn't spend his life pining away for the life of an NBA player, because he gave it his best shot and did the best he could with what he had. (not much, btw) His parents supported ALL of their children in the pursuit of their passions.

Contrast that to the JW child, who never even has a chance to learn what their passions are, much less how far they can take them.

Not everyone who tries makes it the NFL or the NBA or NHL. Not everyone becomes a supermodel or the first woman astronaut in space. But dammit, not for lack of trying.

Well I was a very good basketball player, but when my parents joined the JW's when I was 13 I had to quit before I had a real chance to prove myself in high school. I was told in middle school I had a chance to be Miss Indiana Basketball. I do not know if I would have ever achieved that, but I know I could have played college ball. Basketball was my life at a time, I miss it all the time!

Just remember, we can always change the future. Our background should not matter, nor should age, or anything. If we want to change things in our life, it is up to us to do so. And do so we should! And let everyone out there know that we were successful, in spite of the Society. We must not let ourselves be victims any longer!

yes, if you still have time.... I feel sad for the elderly ones....IF you are still young you may be able to change your course and can still make life a success.....but as time moves on and you get older you may have missed certain opportunites how sad..... you just can't turn back time
