A simlilar thing happened with the classic fantasmagorical novel, "The Finished Mystery," first published in 1917. Years after they had changed a whole bunch of beliefs that book contained, they were trying to get rid of that book, told the dubs to offer it for large discounts.

The WT was overstocked on old shit and needed to get rid of the old shit so they could concentrate on selling new shit.

This is one of the little methods the Org uses to spread their history fabrication.

The memories of these ancient fossils are shaped by fifty years of Watchtower propaganda. They remember things the way the WT wants them remembered and often they speak innacuracy. But then it doesnt matter if its innacurate. Its not THE ORG speaking, Not the CHANNEL of truth. Its just some old crock reminiscing. Of course it happens to be printed in the CHANNEL (The WT) but its not God talking.So its okay if its erroneous. The WT still doesnt lie.

Thats my take on these "Old Timer" articles at any rate. I used to have a collection of old timer articles actually, saying things like "In 1924 I recieved a book "THE Harp of God", which declared that Jesus returned in 1914". Highly unlikely, I think. I threw them all out eventually, just too much stuff to hang onto.
