I got an e-mail this morning, that said there is a virus problem, and since they had my address, I could be affected. They then gave me 7 steps to follow to fix this, has anyone ever had this problem?
They also said it could affect anyone who I have contact with through e-mail.
I do NOT know what to do.
what steps did they ask you to take?

Download the latest version of Norton Anti Virus and use this on your system. Keep Nortons up to date and make sure you enable the Email protection facility, this will block dodgy Emails and allow you to safely delete them.
Thats what I do and have no problems at the moment.
I also use the free firewall package - Zone Alarm to monitor intruders when I'm online.

I had that email once, and it is a hoax, most likely. It instructs you to search for a certain item, and if it is there, to delete it.
Don't do it. Just delete the email.
Trend has a good online virus scanning tool (www.trend.com or www.antivirus.com)
You should never run anything sent to you or follow any instructions unless you are 100% sure they are genuine form a trusted source.
There are parts of your computer that will cause it to stop working properly,if removed.Hoaxes will try to get the user to disable their own pc.
Here's a virus encyclopaedia.It's not perfect,but it does have most of the latest viruses out there.It also has information on a lot of the hoaxes going around.If they named the virus,put the name in and you might be able to find out if it's real or not.

Regardless,I would also suggest you not do the removing,unless the information is from a source you know.

I have since received another virus alert, this one just says read, the first one said read and take action.
1st on from OoWull, is was told it cannot be detected by Norton or McAfee (which we have), and that it sits quietly for 14 days before it does damage to system. It is sent Automatically by Messenger and by Address Book, whether or not I send e-mails or not.
I have 7 steps they gave me to follow and at the end it says. If you find Virus, contact everyone in your address book. This is so confusing. Don't know what to do.
Second Virus alert is from a guy called brent and it tells me to just read it. I got his e-mail address.
The first Virus name is jbjmg.exe
Here are the steps I am suppose to take:
1.Go to Start, Then go to Find or Search.
2.In files/folders, write name jbgmg.exe.
3. Be sure to search in your "C" drive.
4. Click Find or Search.
5. Virus has Teddy Bear Logo with name jbmg.exe. Do Not Open.
6. Right click and delete it.
7. Go to the recycle bin and delete it there also.
If you find Virus, contact everyone in your address Book.
I do not know if I should do this or not. Afraid of making things worse.
