    Scootergirl:

You could always take a cutting of your plants with the berries on the branch to a local gardening store or nursery/greenhouse. The pictures would be ok too, they seem to be very clear, but I don't know how they'd turn out if you print them out.

I did a google search for "red currants" and came up with this website:
    http://www.berrycrops.net/pages/red.htm

Currants come in different varieties, some have long narrow clusters of berries, others are like yours.

The last house we lived in had red, black and white currant bushes. We used to harvest the berries late August-early September.

If birds are eating the berries, they aren't poisonous.

    Love, Scully

Damn, here I thought I found a way for some time by myself!

I am fine guys! Although you women had me laughing pretty hard tonight! I did only eat one.......figured one wouldn't do me much harm.

Yup, Scully that's what I was going to say.

Around our house, the birds ate the raspberries, the blackberries, the mulberries but never touched these.

I would like to know for sure though.

    Yes, I was laughing, too.

Scooter, I'll take your kids. They'll have a riot and they'll be well loved.

I am going to give the University of MN Extension Office a call tomorrow and see who they can refer me to for a positive indentification........I sure do hope that they are currants! I think that Scully may be right.......but I want to get another opinion.

Living out in the woods has been so neat this year.......I have found a huge, wild raspberry bush (have to share w/the bears though), wild blackberries that we picked by the handfuls on Sunday and ate sitting in the sunshine, and blueberries too! I told eyegirl pretty soon I will be munching on pinecones! LOL

I also have a bush that has berries similar to the red ones (birds also eat them) but they are more white. Maybe I will take a clipping in too of them..........

Lilacs....you are a sweetie.....but let me tell you......MY THREE WOULD BE THE THREE THAT WOULD BE TOO MUCH FOR YOU! lol

If the leaves are "three pointed" like this,

and if the flowers are beautiful blue violet with yellow stamens,

and the berries are a wonderful translucent red,

and the plant is more a vine than a bush, then you DO NOT want to eat them! They are deadly nightshade, aka bittersweet.

Birds eat them without harm and poop! another vine appears!

    Not good for small kids!!
