'Cells' is the current favoured expression for what we may know as Bible Study Groups or, more correctly, Book Study Groups.
Steph,
Hillsong operate that way, too, through "cells".
Cheers, Ozzie
Freedom means not having to wear a tie.
Hillsong, being the biggest Assemblies of God in NSW are influencing smaller (but reasonably large in their own right) wannabe churches within that denomination. Hence both the Lighthouse and the Southcoast Christian City Church (AOG churches) have adopted this cell group approach. As Nancee says, it's unity they think they're achieving, when in fact it is uniformity, and that at the most basic level. The result is that you have an entire church which never advances beyond the basics, if they get that far. I'd be interested to see if an average attendee of one of these meetings could hold their own in a doctrinal argument with a Dub (as a theological exercise, rather than a measure of ones spiritual growth, that is!).
I note your sig to the effect that freedom is not having to wear a tie, Ozzie. This lot have the same demand as the Dubs - suit and tie. I felt as out of place as a porkchop at a Jewish wedding when I was there last:
*SIGH*
Is that a pic of Babylon the Great??
Beck *smirk*
Here's a collage I made of my local Babylon the Great (tm):
How evil! The pastor (bottom right corner) wears shorts while giving a talk! The smiling woman (bottom middle) is obviously demon possessed! How dare they have a special talk for kids (bottom left) before they go into the hall for Sunday School!
Actually, I believe the title "book study" to be one of the stupidest expressions in the JW vocabulary.
Think about it. It sounds like it was uttered by someone who is virtually illiterate. It's like saying, "I'm gonna do some word reading now."
Steph,
Your church building looks familiar. Should I know it?
Ozzie (the original one )
Hey, that's a South African flag!
