What's The Next Cut?

So, since Jehovah can't be depended on to pay the Watchtower's bills
(he must be upset about that child molesting or false prophecy thing!),
what can the Society cut next in expenses?

At first I thought the Awake would go, but it may 'make' a marginal profit.
It may only cost about 20 million a year to print - they probably get a little
more than that for it from publishers. As a cult recruiting magazine, it's a
waste of paper but may that may not be enough to kill it.

That leaves us with cutting Gilead, Circuit Overseers, more Bethelites, selling
off factories, closing branch offices, dumping special pioneers, or killing
off magazine production in 'unprofitable' languages.

Of these, I think the priorities go 1) sell buildings
    2) reduce magazine runs in languages spoken by the poor
    3) consolidate branch offices
    4) dump some missionary/special pioneers

Gilead and the itinerant KGB reps seem pretty safe - unless C.O.'s become perceived
as a legal liability in a direct hierarchial chain to the Society.

Some small religions have trouble paying for only one magazine in much smaller
    runs. This will get interesting...

I wonder if they will reduce magazines to once-per-month. If they did this for only some languages, it would be seen as marginalization of that language, so they would have to do it for all languages (to be fair).

If it happened, this would be extremely significant, as they have been publishing twice per month "forever". Of course, they could spin doctor it as necessary.

check some editions of the Awake in third world languages and you'll find
    some reductions already.

You must not have heard, special pioneers are already being phased out. My sister and brother in law, who had specialed for around 20 years, got laid off around five years ago.

The Canadian KM lists only a handful of special pioneers still left. These would be special cases that they have not yet found a way to dump.

The British KM lists only 34 in April.

They just recently stopped the tape subscriptions. They are combining the shipments of magazines to congregations instead of 4 times a month they will be sent only 2 times a month.

Are they still loaning money to build Kingdom Halls and Assembly Halls? If not that would be next.

I don't think they will cut any services - just find tax loopholes to sell more indulgences (ie Voluntary contributions, Interest free loans to the society.) Everyone knows you get a gold star in heaven for every $$$$ you put in the box or every hour you spend on the street convincing others to put money in the box.

I would sujest the watchtower start emailing the magazines and making subscribers print there own!

Charge rent on the KH with an enterence fee!

As for cutting the circulation of magazines to poor countries - no way - the poor are too easy to exploit - thats why they are poor!

I can see the 'writing' in the WT announcing the 'new arrangement' of spiritual food on a monthly basis.

Dear brothers and sisters, the time is close at hand. Our spiritual food is almost complete. Jehovah has informed us that there is no need to give bi-weekly spiritual food, as we already know all we need to know in this the last gasp of Satan's rule. Also, Jehovah has told us to keep up with our field service work, but we will have to use older Awake! magazines to show honest-hearted ones, as Jehovah has also informed us that Awake! is no longer needed. There are very few honest hearted people left in the world, and new Awake! articles will not help. Jehovah suggests spending only a few minutes with the householder(s) to determine if they are honest hearted. If they are receptive to a bible study, watch them closely, as in these are indeed the last gasps of Satan. If they do not respond continually in each bible study session, Jehovah's advice is to stop the study, as you are being tricked by Satan. The honest hearted ones left on Earth will need very little 'reasoning', they just really need to hear Jehovah's words...

So, effective immediatly, we are implementing Jehovah's new requirements. As the spiritual food we have been given is almost complete, the Watchtower magazine will now only be published monthly, and the Awake! is being discontinued.

Isn't Jehovah wonderful.. Just when we were starting to doubght that the end was soooo close, Jehovah, realizing we were having a hard time bearing this load, lightened it for us and told us exactly how close the end is..

I'll bet the $400,000,000 Patterson Resort Complex will be their last asset to go. They'd sell all their Brooklyn properties before they sell their Retirement Resort.
