So, since Jehovah can't be depended on to pay the Watchtower's bills
(he must be upset about that child molesting or false prophecy thing!),
what can the Society cut next in expenses?
At first I thought the Awake would go, but it may 'make' a marginal profit.
It may only cost about 20 million a year to print - they probably get a little
more than that for it from publishers. As a cult recruiting magazine, it's a
waste of paper but may that may not be enough to kill it.
That leaves us with cutting Gilead, Circuit Overseers, more Bethelites, selling
off factories, closing branch offices, dumping special pioneers, or killing
off magazine production in 'unprofitable' languages.
Of these, I think the priorities go 1) sell buildings
2) reduce magazine runs in languages spoken by the poor
3) consolidate branch offices
4) dump some missionary/special pioneers
Gilead and the itinerant KGB reps seem pretty safe - unless C.O.'s become perceived
as a legal liability in a direct hierarchial chain to the Society.
Some small religions have trouble paying for only one magazine in much smaller
runs. This will get interesting...
