Legalism: Over the last few years ex-JWs have discussed much about how to deal with the JWs legally, to stop slander, harassment, etc. ... and then somehow try to avoid being DA'd or DF'd. This can work, but it take some preplanning and careful strategy to implement ... and in the end, the ex-JW often still gets shunned.
Passive Resistence may be better: Essentially, this too requires some preplanning ... but the JWs can do nothing about it ... and it is far more annoying to them. Here are some ways to carry this out:
1. Never say anything about your views, or comment to any JW about your feelings.
2. Stop going to meetings gradually at first ... maybe over a 3 month period ... and then altogether. Never ever return for any reason at anytime, for any purpose.
3. When called on the phone, be polite, and ask to be excused for a minute ... set the phone down and do not return. Make sure everyone is aware that a JW is listening so they will avoid making foolish comments.
4. When the Elders stop by, answer the door, but don't offer to let them in ... ask to be excused for a minute ... and don't return to the door ... or better yet ... just don't answer it.
5. If you are seen in public ... wave and smile, but keep driving, walking, or moving and do not approach the JWs.
6. If you are confronted at the store ... stand there and listen nicely ... then ask to be excused ... and move on and then do not return to talk.
7. If you get a letter in mail ... never open it. Mark it "Return to Sender, not at this address" but make no other comments. The statement seems to suggest that you no longer live there ... but all it really says is: Not at this address - for you could as easily mean not accepted at this address. Or state, "Not the Correct Address for this mailing."
8. If you get a certified letter notice ... never pick it up from the post office. If you are not sure of the sender, the postmaster will allow you to see what it is ... then hand it back ... and walk away without a word. Sometimes the Society will have one of its lawyers send a certified letter as though it were from a lawfirm. If you see a strange envelop, either regular size, or a 9 x 12 file from a lawyer you do not know, especially if it is form New York ... you can note the name and hold off receiving the package. Call the Society using a phone card from a pay phone ... and ask for the name of the lawyer ... and if they put you through to him, then you klnow for a certainty it is a Society attorney ... hang up. And then never accept the certified letter or package.
9. Never write letters, answer phone calls, or return email, or in anyway say anything to any JW about anything ... never acknowledge their existence ... do not return any materials. Do not return Elder manuals. Do not say or do anything that will allow any contact of any kind.
10. If you are cornered where you cannot avoid, escape, or excuse yourself easily, then smile, be polite ... but constantly change the subject to light fluff ... How's the weather? What do you think of those Dodgers? Never under any circumstance discuss the religion or the activity of anyone ... and if asked why you are not at meetings anymore ... simply thank them for missing you and how it seems like only yesterday since you saw them ... and will again soon ... but you have to run for now ... and move on ... never commit, comment, or convey anything.
In time ... they will not only give up ... but they will forget - it will still hurt, and will be like being DF'd ... but, they will never have a leg to stand on in rejecting you ... they will never have any evidence on anything ... and in a sense, you will have beaten their system. .
