he contends that their record is probably jsut as bad, and soemone from those churches probably would not have received fair treatment either.

    ############

    ask your husband this:

If I claim to be the most faithful wife on the street and you found out that i was sleeping with just ONE guy, would you be willing to say:

"O HONEY I UNDERSTAND -IT AIN'T THAT BAD, BESIDE ALL THE OTHER WIVES ON THIS STREET SLEEP WITH 4 OR 5 MEN AND YOU MY DEAR ,ONLY ONE OTHER MAN"

of course he would think that you were smoking something by saying My wrongness ain't as bad as someones elses wrongness- esp if you have been claiming to be the most faithful woman on the block

it is so sad when a jw reaches in their bag of excuses and tries to use that weak line-

he needs to ask should he be comparing jah clean org to the filthy, nasty, immoral church across the street

i mean that mindset is like a man telling his wife she should be happy that he only Beats her 2 times a week since Fred beats his wife 3. DUHHHHHH

but we understand what you are dealing with and that is the mindset of a jw that has been indoctrinated for years perhaps and it takes time

but don't give up on him , just spoon feed him instead

    wish you well

Statistically we know people from all religions abuse and people from all religions are victims of that abuse.

    So what is the difference?

I don't think it is that the JWs say they are the only true religion. Many say the same about their religion.

I don't know that it is the WTs's inability to disclose they have this problem too and certainly not in the numbers they do.

And most religions/cultures prefer to keep this silent so that too is not the whole answer.

I think the answer goes a lot deeper than that.

Few religions expect that members will consult the leaders on what to do in cases of abuse. If I was Baptist or Untited or Jewish and I found out my child was being abused it is unlikely that I would go to my church first before calling the police. I would take my child to the doctor if necessary and then call the police. Consulting the church would be an after thought - a place to get support for decions already made and acted upon.

In most religions there is a clearer separation between daily life and spiritual life. People go to their church for spiritual life and the church is not so totally involved in the daily lives of their members.

If some one steals or lies or smokes they don't have the church breathing down their necks. And for the most part they are not cast out and shunned for doing any of those things. In fact if they don't go to the church themselves it is unlikely the church would know (well unless it hit the papers or someone else told)

But Witnesses (and a few other high control groups) do have that daily living control over their members. And this I think is the crux of the problem. If the org didn't have so much control people would be able to make appropriate daily living decisions without the need to consult an elder. If individuals had more control of their lives they wouldn't think twice about going to the authorities when a problem like this arises. They would use whatever resources the world provides for them, medical, social and legal.

Since the org does have such a strong hand over the members then they are at the mercy of whatever advice they are given - good or bad. And when you add into the mix a patriarchal headship and untrained elders what you most likely will get is bad advice - very bad

    Hi Wednesday,

People in other religions take blood transfusions, so it must be OK if JWs do too.

People in other religions serve in their nations' military, so it must be OK for JWs to do that too.

People in other religons don't let the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society tell them how to live, so that must be OK, too.

Jehovah's Witnesses are just like Babylon the Great, and that's OK too.

Imagine for a moment a fithy, run down, delapidated house. Since a house like that COULD exist, it must be OK for you to let your own house get almost as dirty, right?

Your husband's excuses for the WTS are the product of a lazy mind.

I'm sure that if he wanted to, he could see the problems and contradictions that his lazy excuses result in. How can he even bear to hear himself saying that his religion, "The Truth"(tm), the one communication channel between God and man today, could shirk its pursuit of righteousness simply because all the other false religions have problems also?

Would he let your children (should you have any) excuse their bad behavior in a similar way? I'll bet he would not.

    Sentinel:

If one is not a baptised Catholic, they cannot be married in the church. If they marry outside, the marriage is not "recognized".
Not any more! At least not here!! If your partner is a Catholic you can be married in church as well! Even if you 'only' marry at the Registry Office it is 'recognized" !
