Hi Plm,
I couldnt bring myself to watch the video but I have heard about this. I am so glad she was caught on tape, she definatly needs serious help. That poor child.
Plmkrzy, I saw that. Made me sick. I was never able to have children, always wanted them, but couldn't have them. When I see things like this, it makes me want to find that mother and beat her to a pulp. I can only imagine what that poor little girl has been through in the past. And think of all the abuse cases that are never caught on tape.
I just don't understand.
I finally saw the video today. She really hit him for a long time. I was shocked.
Hi All,
I saw on the news that she turned herself in. I also noticed she wasn't blond anymore. She died her hair. Someone talked her into turning herself in and got her a lawyer. How the heck does a gypsy who was filmed beating a 4 year old get a lawyer?
I saw her mother interviewed (the grandmother of the little girl, Martha) She looked like trash. I don't like using that expression but I don't see anyway around it.
She was defending her daughter saying "I saw my grand daughter after that tape was made and she didn't even have one bruise on her anywhere!" "It looked a lot worse then it really was"" This isn't fair" "My daughter has been under a lot of pressure lately and just snapped, one time and is being treated like a criminal".
How do you respond to that? I would think she would at the very least say "My daughter needs to get some help." But she didn't at least not when I saw her. She probably did the same thing to her kids so they think it's normal.

It was a very horrible thing to do and the little girl was so small and defensless. My father used to hold me upside down by my feet and beat me with the "paddle" yeah the paddle alright. and then he would drop me or throw me agaisnts the counter.
I am glad that they put that little girl with another family because her grandmother is just like MINE covers it all up with sugar to make it look sweet. Hopfully they will leave her with a family that is good to her.
deleted because information had no relevence to ICWA.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Sept. 23) - The woman caught on video beating her 4-year-old daughter in a department store parking lot will probably plead guilty and throw herself on the mercy of the court, her lawyer said Monday.
Madelyne Gorman Toogood, 25, was arraigned on a felony charge of battery to a child, and a magistrate entered an innocent plea on her behalf.
Her attorney, Steven Rosen, said there was no point in trying to challenge the surveillance videotape in court.
''I don't think there's anything, any expert of any degree in any type of credibility that can do anything about that tape. It is what it is,'' he said.
''We will probably enter a guilty plea and throw ourselves on the mercy of the court,'' he said after the arraignment.
Earlier Monday, a Probate Court judge ordered that Toogood's daughter, Martha, remain in foster care in the meantime, and he gave child-protection officials two weeks to recommend who should care for the girl.
If convicted, Toogood could get up to three years in prison. She faces a hearing on Oct. 7.
The mother of three had no comment as she left court. She remained free on $5,000 bail.
''People might think I'm a monster, but I've been a mother for six years, and no harm has come to my children before this, never,'' Toogood told CNN earlier Monday. ''I'm sorry. That's all I can say.''
A doctor examined the girl and found no medical problems and no long-term signs of abuse, authorities said.
Toogood told reporters Sunday she hit her daughter in the head and back and pulled her hair but did not punch her. On the video of the Sept. 13 incident, which has been televised nationally, Toogood appears to make punching motions toward her daughter inside a sport utility vehicle.
''Martha didn't deserve what she got,'' Toogood said over the weekend. ''I just lost my temper.''
Rosen said he believed the hitting took place because Martha misbehaved in the store, taking toys out of packages and wandering away, prompting store employees to page Toogood twice.
Toogood said she hopes to be reunited with her daughter and that she, her daughter, and her husband, John, plan to start parenting classes. ''Anything that they want us to do, we will do,'' Toogood said.
She said her two young sons are staying with family.
Toogood said she and her husband have been living in Mishawaka for about six months. She said they are Irish Travelers - a nomadic group that police say has been linked to fraudulent home repair.
By some estimates, 7,000 Travelers live in the United States - most in Texas and South Carolina - about 40,000 live in Ireland and England. The Travelers began migrating to the United States more than 100 years ago.
Toogood's sister also was arraigned Monday on a charge of assisting a criminal.
SaintSatan.....Who are you???
Would you change your name at least it has a very negative message sent with it!!! Maybe it is representative of your attitude....
Can you read and hear the things going on in the world....just because women have been given their rights and calling someone an ugly name is not looked upon favorably...doesn't mean the world is a better place....
This woman that was caught on tape was really on the edge with her actions, that is plain to see. Four years old is cutting it very close for any real discipline , and I counted ten blows witch is pretty brutal.
But if any of you have kids that are unruly and into things that will hurt them in the long run, you need a tool to get their attention. Sometimes kids need some physical wacks to get their attention. I am not condoning beating your kids but they need help sometimes in seeing some immediate response is needed and they will not respond without some pressure.
I don't care to hear your remarks or reply to this, unless they have at least two kids over the age of ten....
Don't misunderstand this women went too far and needs to be punished, but the act of simply hitting a child is not necessarily abuse!!!
The government just like the DUBS need to stay back out of your life a bit, and not dictate things to you in your daily life.......they can control you much more than you want or need.
I have talked to many people over the last few days since I am in sales and see individuals in an office setting all day long, most of them sahre the exact concerns as I do????
BREEZE
Now it makes sense to me. This woman is an Irish traveler AKA Scam artist. The men do the home repair scams and the women do the shoplift return for cash to make money. Most do very well and live very well. The little girl probably spoiled her scam.
They travel around the country part of the year and then go home to lavish houses. They are very close-nit and are extremely suspicious of outsiders.
I remember seeing a segment on 20/20 about them. Someone smuggled out a videotape of one of their large "gatherings". It made me sick. Little girls (some 4 years old!) tarted up like grown women and instructed to dance provocatively for the males.
Also, leaving is much like the WTS. There is no honorable way, and in some cases it can be fatal.
Though what this young woman did was deplorable and I hope she gets nailed to the wall. However, she apart of something larger and more depraved in it's willingness to exploit it's little girls.

(this regarding "Sometimes kids need some physical wacks to get their attention. I am not condoning beating your kids but they need help sometimes in seeing some immediate response is needed and they will not respond without some pressure."...)
I found this an interesting statement. I have three children. There have been times when I have "swatted" their behinds to get their attention but this was done ONLY when they were young (toddler age)-but NEVER have I ever had to "wack" them at an older age (say........around 10) to get their attention. Maybe I should count myself lucky that I don't have to use physical force to get my children's attention.
The above statement just sounded strange to me.....
