Silent Witnesses
The Catholic and Anglican churches in Australia are already engulfed in the scandal of child abuse, with mounting evidence that they have covered up sexual assaults by members of the clergy and allowed paedophiles to continue preying on young victims, often for years. This week, we reveal another church has been routinely covering up cases of child abuse in its ranks. Sunday has managed to get inside the highly secretive Jehovah's Witnesses, who have some 60,000 adherents in Australia, and found the Church has secretly pursued a policy of obstructing police investigations into child abusers. Some Church elders believe that, since the rest of us live in a world run by Satan, they have a divine right even to lie in court. Child abuse victims tell for the first time how they were told not to take their complaints to the police. In one case, the same paedophile molested up to 40 children, but still the Jehovah's Witnesses did nothing ... more Wonder whats on TV this morning?..... |

How dare the rotten, biased, worldly media spread such a vicious lie about the brothers.
highly secretive
What do they mean by that? Why, theyre not implying the brothers are a cult or anything are they? Sheesh. This breaks my heart to see this....

Archbishop on TrialAugust 25, 2002
Reporter : Helen Dalley
Producer : Jayne Anderson and Nick Rushworth
The unofficial head of Australia's Catholic Church, George Pell, has stood aside as Archbishop of Sydney while a church inquiry investigates a claim that he sexually abused a 12-year-old boy in 1961. Archbishop Pell denies the allegation. But who leaked incriminating information about his accuser's past to the media? Sunday reports on a church inquiry that already has a few questions of its own to answer ...
The Catholic Church was again on the rack this week ... its most powerful prelate, the Archbishop of Sydney, His Excellency, George Pell, accused of sexually abusing a twelve-year-old boy in Victoria 41 years ago. The allegations were vehemently denied by Archbishop Pell, who stood aside, so an investigation could be conducted into the claims. But even before the inquiry began, it was claimed the Catholic Church tried to discredit the alleged victim by leaking details of his criminal history.
Archbishop Pell pre-empted allegations to be made in the media, by calling a press conference late in the afternoon, saying: "Certain allegations have been made about my conduct when I was a seminarian over forty years ago. These allegations against me are lies and I deny them utterly and totally. The alleged events never happened."I Dont know whether any of the ozzie posters put anything about this one up before. This is from the Sunday show 4 weeks ago.
"it was claimed the Catholic Church tried to discredit the alleged victim by leaking details of his criminal history."
well at least we know that the brothers wouldnt resort to underhand tactics like these!

Hey refiners fire, i don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but if you're not....hold up a sec. You can't be 100% sure what they based those comments on. While it may be true most of the elders would not say anything to provoke such a statement, it is quite possible someone did. Unfortunately, every single elder represents the whole organization, therefore one "bad apple" may have ruined the whole barrel in this regard.
You have to admit that the borgs lack of turning over molestors to the authorities in itself automatically implies to others that they are "above the law." True, their policies seem more geared to adhering the law now, but sadly that hasn't always been the case.
At any rate, those in high positions get the most criticism, whether that position be religious, secular, etc. Any mistake or slip-of-the-tongue will be caught by someone.

Well its over. The media did a good job on it. They used statements by abuse victims talking about "Theocratic warfare" and "The wicked government and legal system" and the necessity to keep silent to protect the congregation. And they interspliced these with evasive statements by elders who refused to comment. They hung that little rodent Morris Hadley (A Melbourne Elder) out to dry. The elders own statements proved they weree doing that which they were denying doing. It was sweet.
