Cricket, a question. Now, first of all, I am also inactive (about 16 years), but never df'd nor da'd. Like Somebody, no one ever came to call to try to encourage me to go back, even though initially I would have loved to have help to reactivate myself. They did, in fact, do me a favor.
While I was active, it was known that one should not associate with df'd or da'd people. Supposedly, it was because these people had "turned away from Jehovah" and were "bad association".
Experience has taught me that neither of these statements is true. In fact, many people who are df'd or da'd are better associates than those who are still active. The horror stories about those who have left are simply not true.
So, my question to you is, have you ever proved to yourself the reasoning behind not speaking with df'd or da'd people? Or do you simply comply because you have been told to?
I understand that you will probably come back with the scripture about not associating those who commit horrible sins for which they are not repentant. However, most people who have left are not in that category. This isn't an accusation, but merely a question for you to think about. When I considered this issue without prejudice, I found that the only reason for me was that I was told not to.
