....get a mention at the coming conventions in Australia? -

I guess it might - but maybe not at this 2015 convention - perhaps at the 2016 convention. Realistically once the royal commission has completed its fact finding work it is as likely to give religions like Jehovahs witnesses more freedom and more privileges than not. For example it may give religions explicit exemptions from the need for CRB checks if they can prove they do not work with children like in the UK (I would not like to see this happen but it may....). The last time I checked Australia treats all volunteer institutions the same re crb checks whether they are religious or secular and does not give exemptions to volunteers in religions if they do not work with children. Or am I wrong on this?
edit: only saying this in case of setting oneself up for disappointment

zeb - "Will the Royal Commission into Child abuse... get a mention at the coming conventions in Australia?"
Just an oblique, persecution-spun reference at most.
Going into detail about it would be too risky; they're not that stupid.
I think.

I think the Royal Commission will determine fairly quickly the crusade-like properties of at least some of the anti-JW sectors in Australia. Unfortunately, some of the names associated with those sectors are not known for their own ability to reason and instead have resorted to a lot of legal and moral hyperbole, some of it laughable as in demanding named members of the GB publically apologize through the Courts.
Anyone who has read the inflammatory rantings of Steven Unthank will know what I mean. None of my comments gainsay the core concerns about the deficient attention the organization has given child safety within its own ranks, especially over responses to allegations of child sexual abuse.
We will have to wait and see. In the meantime, the organization's official public stance will be, "Official inquiry? What official inquiry? Nothing to see here folks. Keep moving."

Pretty sure this wouldn't be happening if not, in some part, due to Unthank's efforts, whatever you might think of them. -

Likely very true Vidiot, although I would not downplay the impact of some of the more strongly reasoned - and less shrill - voices that have also been evident in Australia. -

Wouldn't dream of it.

Will the Royal Commission get a mention? I doubt it will be the subject of a Sunday talk, but amongst themselves they will be humming with speculation. Some will outright go into damage control. My sister may even shove another bloody tablet in my face to force me into seeing how it's all "lies" as per the society..
I also hope that the Card requirements are not changed by this Commission. The lawyers are sneaky bastards and good at twisting the facts outright. Tool has said that he can get out of any .........can't remember the exact phrase now........He said there is no question or fact that he cannot twist. I think that was the word he used.

Ruby456.
Out of the pressure of the publicity of Unthank and Commission in the state of Victoria for Child Abuse apart from the separate Royal Commission now under way the wt decided that if anyone felt they should have a 'working with children they could get one themselves but would not be ordered too.

I really feel for Mr Unthank and the work he has done although I don't agree with some of his behaviour and methods and wish that there could have been people by his side to support him. But on his own I don't think he could have done it any differently as he had been abused in his childhood within the JW organisation and been silenced.
