Did something happen this week? (site traffic)

I forgot who made the post about that site 'exploding' with the traffic because of the Silentlambs march.

Well, the site didn't explode but the traffic certainly went up! Last week we had 55,000 visits making it the busiest week ever so far. No doubt Monday will be busy 'cause a lot of people view the site from work (you naughty people, lol) and they'll want to see all the pics and stuff.

Thanks to everyone who's visited and posted for keeping things buzzin'

55,000 hits? Wow........"I remember when.........." it was about 8 of us......for quite a while. Of course, we visited more than once, so that would be at least 16 hits a day,eh?

Welcome to all the lurkers (ie - people not posting, but reading). Lots of information - and some good people.

    Yes, happy times ...

I'm pleased that things have calmed down somewhat after the latest 'growing pains' and the site appeals to a wide audience without being too offputting.

I'm sure many are still scared to take the plunge and post though!

    oh ... and it's 55,000 sessions, not hits !

A session is roughly a 'visit' by someone.

Last week there were over 2,000,000 hits (this isn't a good measure as I'm always working on optimising things to reduce the number of hits and adding new graphics would increase it)

    Well, howdy, Simon!

I don't know the difference between "sessions" "visits" and "hits." Wanna explain? How can you differentiate - and exactly, what is the difference?

I was talking (in real life) with another long-time poster here, and we both concurred ---- the general tone is more "like it used to be."

But I would assume that might not be permanent, eh?

When you visit the site (1 session) you may click on several links (page views). Each page view and each graphic on the page is a 'hit'

    Hope this helps

I'm pretty sure we can keep the friendly atmosphere ... we seem to be able to manage it without having to do much work at all really as I think it's what most people want (it's usually only a handful of people who spoil things but like to make a big song and dance about it)

How about the influx of registered users, it seems more and more are signing up and posting.
