I read somewhere, or maybe it was on the History Channel, that John was refering to NERO when he wrote 666.

wow ... I love stuff like this - it's very clever and facinating.
You did miss the *real* meaning of 666 as in the book of Revalation though:
"The number is the mark of a man" (something like that). The Jews used letters for numbers and the Roman Emperor's name in Hebrew was the number 666 (something like that)

Do I need my calculus & trig. college books to understand this thread?!!!!
And does this mean that I shouldn't be afraid to ask anymore, as now I have more questions then I did before this thread was posted!!!!!

We once met an old woman on the "Ministry " who insisted that the beast was Kissinger , he was Secretary of State at the time and very prominant
There was actually a book about that back in the 1970's called Kissinger: Man of Peace? It was written by Salem Kirban, who has written a lot of books on prophecy. His most popular was called Guide to Survival, and it was about what to do if the rapture occurred and you were not taken to be with Jesus. He also did a novel on the same topic (about the rapture, Tribulation and Antichrist) called 666, which may have been an early precursor of the Left Behind series.
Interestingly, he also wrote a series of books called Doctrines of Devils, in which he took on the doctrines of various cultic groups. One of the volumes was on Jehovah's Witnesses.
I was reading all these books when I was a JW; that might help explain why I'm where I am now. I'm not sure whether Kirban is still living; I know I haven't seen a new book by him in a long time.
And that's all there is in this thread that I feel qualified to comment on; it's been too many years since I took any serious math...
